Clutch problem.....

My clutch died on me on the way home the other night.

Have you ruled out the clutch fork bending? I have seen that happen on a couple of occasions.

Might go and check it out before I push it to the mechanic.....

I've had problems when taking off on a hill the car shudders, the steeper the ill the more severe the shudder....

Would clutch fork cause this?? Thanks for the advice!!

i was recommended a Daikin Clutch...now i am not mechanically minded so i have no idea the guys at Escort Roadand Race seemed to think this was a good option

Clutch fork issues would be unable to engage gears, commonly mis diagnosed as a clutch with no more adjustment.

When you say your clutch has died, did it just go, or were you getting more slip over time. Every clutch I've ever done wore out slowly over time and it was just a case of running out of adjustment before needing the replace the plate.
I'd say rag top is closer to the mark. People don't realise there are quite a few different clutch forks and if they have the wrong one they bend them to get them to work (and effectively weaken them in the process). Plus they are usually adjusted wrong as well, so you get the full force of the motor straight up and subsequently get the shudders. I use a 1600 clutch plate in a fully worked 2lt and leave a bit of slip in the clutch when adjusting it. I've given the old girl some serious stick over the years and I've yet to blow a clutch....done, a few diffs though.....
Rip that useless plastic boot off the bellhousing and just check the condition of the fork before forking over $750.

The clutch hasn't "felt" right since I bought the car a few months ago. It wasn't slipping, just getting the shudders when I was taking off. The day it went it pretty much just "fell" to the floor and wouldn't give me any clutch at all. It is the first time I have had anything like this go in an Escort before (I have also killed a diff!!).

I obviously need to check it out before I hand the dough over!!
