Default 90 degree Reverse Parking in Victoria is ILLEGAL!!

As we pulled into Shaggers meeting point at the E-Series Geelong meet (my EF wagon first and miss R33 second) out of all the 30+ cars already there the Patrol COP just couldn't resist the oppurtunity to pull over the R33. Yes, as soon as we reverse parked he shot over in his SS Patrol box straight beside the R33, completely ignoring all the hot vehicle around him (clear sign of racism - has a prob with imports by the looks of it).

Offcourse he gaves us all the bull we always get, random breath test, blah blah bull.

Anyways, it came to the part in the conversation where he stated what we had done wrong.

The COP replied, you have parked illegally. It is illegal to reverse park in 90 degree parking spots anywhere in Victoria expcept for Shopping Centres and other designated venues (Sports, etc.)
However he decided not to hit us with a parking fine due to all the vehicles in the area parked the same way.

Is there anyone with certified legal information whether this rule is fact or fiction in Victoria?

I think that the police officer was incorrect.

Check out http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrpdf/randl/part_12.pdf
section 210, 3(b), this states that
"if the vehicle is parked on the side of the road—may position the vehicle with either the front or rear of the vehicle nearest to traffic in the marked lane or line of traffic next to the part of the road where the driver parks."
They've even got a nice picture of a car parked at 90° with the rear end in and it has got a tick on it.

I've never heard of that before and never seen anybody get done up there. EVERYBODY reverse parks at shaggers.

I wouldn't mind calling the cop shop/vic roads to find out what the rules on this are.

I would ask him just what part of any Act, Regulation or Council Bylaws say anything about that.
He was just bluffing but made himself look stupid instead.

Sounds like crud to me. Unless the parking signs specifically say nose to kerb, then it's entirely up to you how you park. I always reverse park. Even in my garage.

The policeman said he wouldn't book me because everyone else at shaggers had parked the same way. He was bringing it to my attention that theres a high chance if I repeat the reverse parking alone someone and any policeman sees me, I should by Law get booked. Apparently this rule goes across all of Vic and all policeman's know of it. Which clearly this is another COPPER spinning his own made up Load of .

The car is RWC to both EPA and VicRoads. Simple; as per usual act of discrimination - so many nice cars parked and driving by, out of bout 30 picks on a Jap, 2ndly he had no reason to pull us over so he obviously made one up on the spot, as he had no documentation to support his case (No 90 degree Reverse parking in Vic).

I asked him several times, where is this documented, has he got a code/ rule number for such a traffic infringement, he refused to respond. I believe one of the SA guys overheard the conversation.

You got stung by a copper that made up a law on the spot.

I reverse park as it is 100 times safer!

Don't you wish you could just the the copper to "F**K OFF"?
I mean it would have been justified as he had no right to do what he did!

i agree , i think the copper jumped you rather then the other cars around was due to your blue neon, attracted his attention , no one else was doing anything wrong so he had to find something that HE thought he could defect, Lucky for you he wasnt a complete a** , you **** them off they will come up with anything to get you, and at the end of the day its your word against them . which is never a good thing.
Nice car tho

Nice car tho
Thank you for the compliment. True luckily nothing got done or defected. He even didn't mention anything about the neon. But I am pretty sure that and the fact its a Jap car would have contributed to him pickin on us.

It's alright tho, at least I now can verify that he made up a law on the spot.

I reverse park my cars always, due to the high gutters councils make at car-parks which 9/10 times the front bar scrapes (don't want that ).

Yeah, I bought that to his attention and had a go at him for that exact same thing. His lame excuse, I wasn't stationery for more than so and so, the engine wasn't shut down and I was reversing to do a u turn. That's one lame liar of a copper if you ask me.

Wasn't that a crack up. He was pulling up right next to you, in reverse mind you. Then, we arrived, reversed parked and in no longer than a sec his attention turned to the R33. Amazing, the car must just be one big cop magnet or just a stunner and he couldn't resist taking a closer look.

I suppose our neons just looked better than his cop lights so he got a bit jealous.

He didn't book me as he clearly knew in his mind he was talking crap with his own new rule for Victoria. Therefore there was really nothing he could do in Reality as such a rule does not exist.

I think shaggers would have turned to hell if he gave one car a Reverse parking fine out of another 15 or so reverse parked cars.

460cixy - I think it is that as this is a pulblic forum we need to show respect for the law and those who try and enforce it. Also we all have our opinions, some of then need to be 'filtered' prior to posting.

I find it very hard to respect an organisation that is against the motor enthusiast and it does mean we have to be cowards but FFAU don't want to fall into the same trap the Commodore forum did a couple of weeks ago.

Prehaps if enthusiasts were respected by the police, then they would respect them!

Your gonna get done by one of the moderators as soon as they see this :P

I agree 100% with LTDHO.

mr_efxr: How long have you had the skyline? You should be used to getting picked on by cops : It's not a fair world, I guess imports are an easy target as there aren't many stock ones around so they know that they can get ya for something.

I think you people with imports should stop sooking.

Its wrong that you got "picked" on but if you buy that kind of car; and go to meets then im sorry but expect it to happen time after time.

Also calling cops pigs is a bit low; kept that for the commy cruising sites.
