Default Enthusiast Car Insurance

Hi Guys

Is anybody with Enthusiast Car Insurance and has anyone had to make a claim?Im with Shannons at the moment and they want $2300 vs Enthusiasts $1600 (in the highest excess) Im just a little concerned in regards to them because they are newish and there are not many reviews on them.

Compare the PDS between the two companies.

Yeah they are similar. Difference is Shannon's dont allow the excess to be adjusted and also the km's cannot be restricted

I was looking into them as well as I had read good reviews about them online.
I was interested to see who owned them as they are, as you say, quite new.
It was a bit of a rabbit hole, but maybe they are all like that?

i'm with both, shannons is more of a general insurance company and enthusiasts will look after specialist cars
eg: shannons only offered $16k for my 1of 1 BA GT and that was after proof, photos and haggling every year when they reduced it, where enthusiasts suggested $30k value and it was $50 less per year
however shannons are cheaper for my more regular cars and bikes

Find who underwrites them, is it a big company that can honor claims?

Its in their PDS

Assetinsure Pty Ltd, ABN 65 066 463 803, (Assetinsure)
Assetinsure are APRA registered so it’s all legit.

The one thing to note with Enthusiast is that they are strict on mileage travelled. It has to be minimal Kim’s and minimal usage . If you drive more and rack up the klm more than what you told them, it costs more and they may forfeit the cover if you don’t tell them.

I’ve found Shannon’s is more about usage then klm. Theoretically you could do Melb to Syd each month ( drive once per month ) and it wouldn’t be a problem. They are more concerned about risk due to daily usage / exposure etc

With Enthusiast Insurance you can select 1,000km's to 15,000km's a year or even unlimited and was cheaper than Shannons. I went with them and saved myself $700 a year. Thats with a cap of 14000km's a year. I f I am going to go over I just have to call them and add some money. If I didnt call and i went over and needed to make a claim then i will still be insured but would have to pay $2000 excess on top of my existing excess
