i took the car down to the local mechanic for a gear box service. He went over the car and found a few problems i don't where to start because money is tight so i getting one thing at a time dowe. Could u guys tell me in order which u think are the important ones:

*windscreen washers need reconnecting
*gas leaking from air con compressor
*rear swaybar rubbers
*front swaybar rubbers
*rear upper and lower trailing arm bushes
*both engine mounts
*gearbox mount
*tail pipe starting to rust
*a/c belt
*pwer steering belt

any help will do

Windscreen washers you could probably do yourself and depending whether or not you use aircon much that could be pushed down the list. So probably do the mounts and power steering belt first then maybe bushes.....but im not a mechanic and don't know much so maybe wait for someone else to reply :

well the ac gas.. ya better of waiting for it to leak out becasue u will be up for a re gas to get it fixed any hows.. all the other shit sounds pretty normal

yeah, you could do the washer jets urself, then i would start with the mounts, then the belts (both belts... change 1 change all), followed by the bushes/rubbers. THEN when you have sufficient money tackle the aircon, because you will probably need a new or reco'd compressor aswell as a re-gas and new seals.

Yeah I agree, don't worry bout the air co just yet, open your windows! I would actually get a 2nd opinion just to make sure he's not taking you for a ride...

The windscreen washer reconnection is easy, if I can do it, YOU can Get mounts, bushes and belts done. If you go to the right place it's not too expensive - if you get it all done at once it will save you a bit of money. If you can't afford that (like me atm), then group belts together, bushes together and mounts together and get it done one group at a time.

OK, by now you should have done the washer jets as they are sooo easy.

Next bushes. Why? Because they effect handling and braking and are safety related and make them priority.

Whilst driving causiouly save for the mounts. Also locate leak for AC. It may only need a tighten!

Assuming the belts haven't fallen apart by now, replace these. All the time your exhause is still working.

Now save for a sports exhaust. Why? Easy, whynot. They are not that expensive and you will notice the difference.

Ok how much is "not that expensive"? I am curious as it is something I would like to do to the EA when I inherit it.

Hey that's better than I thought, although fitting could be really expensive for all I know lol

It's like paint. I always assumed it would be quite cheap to paint a car, then I find out it's a fair few grand and some are up in the tens of thousands... and I almost fell over!

exhaust is easy to fit.. shouldn't cost too much for fitment.

if the belt r bad like theyll break do them first, its cheap anywho,
next do ya engine/gear box mounts so ya car isnt gonna get shaken to pieces and have the engine smashed around everytime it is rev'd. then go ya bushes if ya take cornering easy ya should be fine unless there good and dead, ya'll hear a know when tehre dead if there only worn ya wont hear anything just th car will roll a bit more. if ya were able to live with them for a while ya would prob find labour to be cheaper to get it all done at once instead of bits and pieces here and there.

The windscreen washers are a trivial thing to pay someone to do but don't forget about them.. its makes your car unroadworthy... and if you get pulled up by a picky cop..

Swaybar bushes are easy enough to do yourself.. all you need is a few spanners and a jack.

Absolutely. I bargained my way down to $180!! : And that's a quality set up that most of the guys on here are basically running. My mate just got a Redback 2.5" mandrel bent, one muffler and resonator for $250 fitted. Just go in there knowing what you want.

engine mounts you can do yourself too, with a few spanners and a jack (And a block of wood... and a ramp or similar)

get an ellerys or gregories manual and you should be able to do a lot of it yourself, you'll never learn if you never try, and you should save yourself just a little cash ;)
