Ok all,
I don't know if I told you but on the cruise the EA died. We had all stopped in Bathurst and when I got back into my car, there was nothing. No lights, not a peep from the horn... Got Brent to have a looksie, and he fooled around with the wires on the battery. Seems some of the ones going to the red were no longer insulated and were touching (that was the theory anyway) cos when he separated them, the car then had electricals and it started. Then thanks to Brent again, I put some electrical tape over the bare wires and drove it home. I told the lesser half what had happened and that we oughtta get it to an auto electrician very soon and get it sorted. Well naturally we haven't had time, he works 12 hour days and uses the Ford exclusively. He jumps in this morning and it happens again. Me, being the smart ***, said to him "Oh I know what's wrong" and checked it out... then the electrics came back on on the dash, but the second we went to start it, there was a "click" then nothing, the electrics would go again. Now he's taken my rolla to work and he's not happy... has anyone got any ideas as to what this could be? I can't even get it to an auto electrician cos it's stuck in our driveway. And we're not in the NRMA. Ta!

Nope, the earth wire is fine... tried it all again. I move and fiddle with power wires, put the key in and turn to accessories, and all the lights come on.
I go to kick it over and there is an audible click from the engine bay, then nothing. Electricals die. BUGGER BUGGER BUGGER! ARGH! I will hunt this bastard wire down and fix it if it's the last thing I do!

Ok it's all good... fussy friggin car!
It seems those insulated wires on the live terminal melted cos the battery connection was SLIGHTLY loose and it must've gotten hot - hence melting. Also now that the battery is tight, everything's good. Goddamn, how annoying! Well the bright side - at least it wasn't an expensive trip to the auto electrician!

Whilst its fixed go out & either buy a couple of rolls of electrical tape. or Grap some heatshrink & fix it for good!!.
Last thing you want would be for the car to start fire.

For a while I had alot of electrical problems with my falc and this fixed it. Make sure you use good quality wire that has sufficient current rating and solder every joint and cover all joints with heat-shrink. - John |
