The story has gone missing! Can't get to it.

Crux of the story is that it has been found that beer does not kill off brain cells.

Its not conclusive - and not considored by many health experts to be a solid fact as many heavy drinkers have cognitive damage after years of drinking

Sorry guys, the link has gone dead.... It was working......

It seems that moderate drinking is not as bad for you as some have made out. But obviously binge and alchoholics are exempt.

the way i interpreted it was that it didn't specify whether drinking killed brain cells or not, but rather that the brain could produce brain cells as opposed to the long term belief that you are born with a specific number of brain cells and if some of them died, then tuff tt. it then implied that drinking in moderation may stimulate the growth of said cells and prevent heart disease, etc.

EDIT: I just realized i had a tab still open with the article in it, and sgt_doofey, you were right, i must have missed that bit.

Drinking may not be so bad, say scientists

Scientists say the research dispels the myth that human beings are born with only a certain number of brain cells. (ABC News: ABC News)

Map: Cairns 4870
A conference of some of the world's top neuroscientists in far north Queensland has found alcohol does not kill off brain cells.

The director of the Queensland Brain Institute, Professor Perry Bartlett, says the conference in Cairns is discussing new research that shows the brain is able to generate new cells.

He says the research dispels the myth that human beings are born with only a certain number of brain cells and having the odd tipple improves memory.

"The evidence suggests that moderate drinking is in fact beneficial to vascular system and may well help to prevent things like stroke and heart disease," he said.

"There well may be a positive effect of moderate drinking on brain health."

Trust scientists in north qld to debunk the theory that beer kills brain cells.

Even if they proved 100% that beer does kill brain cells id probably still drink a little.
