Default Is gas worth it on a v8?

hi guys

getting a ute soon and most likely gonna get something on gas that is a 6 cylinder. But if i find a ute thats an 8 that has gas is it worth it? Would you still be saving money in the long run? Cheers.

It's been worth in on the I6 in my EL. Paid for itself (installation cost) reasonably quickly.
If I was just using petrol, I'd be spending ~$70-$90 a week. On LPG, it's costing me ~$40.

Saving money in the long run as compared to what? If your talking late model V8 (5.0L) vs late model 6cyl (4.0L) there will be very little in it. The V8 will use a little more fuel but not much more, and the 4.0L 6 is a long lasting engine so there is no real advantage of the V8 over the 6 for engine life.

It depends if you want a V8 or not. An LPG drinking V8 is still more economical to run than the majority of 4 cylinder cars running petrol out there.

Keeping in mind LPG cost will be the same as Petrol by 2010, so if you are calculating pay off cost, allow for the increase in LPG cost.

I made the mistake of paying big money for an expencive kit to be fitted by a dodgy installer.
It's cost me more!

Yeah I don't get that either? Are you saying that by 2010 LPG will cost the same as petrol is NOW, or that by 2010 LPG was cost the same as petrol at that time? I don't think LPG will be the same as petrol as that will mean there's no reason to have LPG as LPG cars burn more litres per 100km. If they were the same price it would actually cost more to run on LPG!!!!

Excise (2.5c/L) kicks in as of 2011. 12.5c/L as of 2015.

But even the excise won't make LPG prices anywhere near petrol. I refueled today at 64.9, ULP was 144.9. The difference is a bit more than 12.5c. Even allowing for an 30% extra fuel consumption of LPG v ULP, LPG would still be more than 30% more economical than ULP.

i.e. (144.9-((64.9+12.5)x1.3))/144.9 = 30.5%

thanks for that info mate. But that doesn't address the post by LTDHO stating by 2010 LPG will cost the same as petrol. I would like him to explain what he means by that

If the greedy companies and government allow LPG to me more than 60%-70% of the price of petrol, they can kiss the whole LPG industry goodbye. It simply won't be worth getting a conversion.

I highly doubt that I'd happen. The 12.5c we've known about for some time.

i think what ltdho was meaning is that lpg will be the same price as petol is today i;e petrol today $149.9 gas 2010 $149.9 but buy then petol will be about $2.50 a litre

it comes down to what you want.
A v8 on petrol will cost marginally more to run that a i6 on petrol.
a v8 on gas will cost marginally more to run that a i6 on gas.
A v8 on gas will most likely cost less to run than most 4cyl petrol cars.
To me, the idea that you can enjoy the sound and torque of a v8 while paying less in fuel than the average 4cyl car owner makes a v8 on gas the ideal car... I've got a good old 5L, 162rwkw on lpg and cheaper to run that my wife's mazda6 (2.3L 4cyl for those who don't know).

Why do you buy a V8, convert it to a fuel that makes it less powerful, less easy to fill when you are away for the main roads, is consumed more quickly, requires a pressure tank and is only cheaper because it has less excise than petrol or diesel?

Diesel used to be half the price of petrol until all the 4WD wombats started using it and the canberra bean counters thought of a cunning plan. Bean counters are always thinking of cunning plans.

We have our XB on straight gas and it has made little difference to the performance of our car but it makes a fantastic difference to the wallet!!

Putting a car on straight gas (compared to duel fuel or straight petrol) should see improvements in performance due to the fact you can tune the car to one fuel type and also the higher octane rating of LPG. Or so I believe.

These are the tanks we have in the coupe. Best thing about coupes...still heaps of room in the boot! We have approx 120 usable litres and at around 45c a litre, best thing we did!

Car runs cleaner. Haven't had any issues performance wise since taking it off dual fuel.

i believe it is based on demand in the future as china ramps up its use of lpg fired power stations and the world going green

My V8 wagon is on gas. $45 to fill up and I get 500km out of a tank and thats with cam and headwork done. LPG allows me to have 2 V8s on my driveway which is better than 1!

For the sound. I had an EF 5 litre manual Gli with dual fuel. It was slow(ish). But it sounded the best.

my coupe almost became a barbeque on petrol, never had the problem on gas
gas also saved a rare 2v head from being destroyed when the water pump went
