It is with great sadness that I have to announce the tragic loss of our friend and valued member Roger (Gasolane) after an all too short battle with cancer.
He was a tireless contributor to this community in so many ways and as a moderator he was always firm but fair with all those he dealt with and I will miss his humour, tolerance and his willingness to always help.
During COVID, he helped me out personally by transporting a puppy from the NSW border to the Queensland border to it's new owner and there are many here with similar stories of his willingness to help.
Our thoughts are with his wife Maxine and his extended family as we share in their loss.

A big, no massive, loss to this community. I particularly agree with your comment, russ, about Gaso being firm but fair. He had a unique way of being able to throw in a simple comment that could alter the direction of the discussion.

He and I didn't always see eye to eye but I respected his perspective, and I think he mine.

Vale, Gaso. RIP. My thoughts are with all of his family and friends.

Gaso - met him a couple of times - top bloke, for a Pom

When I first visited his place, the garage had been converted into a hairdressing salon, I strode up the driveway, slid open the sliding glass door, and declared, "I'm here to see the man of the house."

Maxine, his wife, without so much as stopping what she was doing, responded, "Up the stairs."

And so began a long friendship with Gaso - both of us paying out on each other whenever the opportunity arose.

I called him A DUMB UGLY POMMY GIT

He called me a JUNGLE CRAWLER, and a few other names which escape me at the moment.

He was very quick-witted and had an instant comeback when paying him out - he was nearly as witty as me.

I hope to get to his funeral - it's a three day drive but worth it if I can pay him out once more.

RIP Gaso:noteworthy

Very sad news.

I have never met a single person on this forum, but you do get to know people nonetheless.

Roger was a true gentleman, reaching out a number of times over the years I have been here, helping me with forum admin stuff, giving me a heads up on mower parts, talking about detailing.

My deepest sympathies to his family and wider circle.

I can't believe i'm reading this, makes you feel very mortal. Gaso was one of those guys you'd think did the right thing, always positive, difficult to get off kilter, you'd think would live forever, or you'd want him to to keep this place right, part of AFF's lifeblood. You could hit him up anytime, guaranteed to end up with a smile on your face, or make sense of whatever you were trying to make sense of in the first place, same age space, same mind space, a mate i never met. AFF just won't be the same without him. Here he's immortal. Cheers Roger. Cheers.

The funeral is 11.30am, next Wednesday.

EDIT: If anyone would like to go, could they please PM me? It would be only so that we can have an idea on numbers for the wake.

I have been in constant contact with Gaso's wife since he was diagnosed and she has been amazed at the response of the members within AFF.

Also, if anyone would like to make a monetary contribution to the funeral they are most welcome to - Roger was not that much into flowers.

To make a contribution, use the AFF account and we will pass on the full amount to the family.

Contributions are certainly not expected in any way.

Beer money sent for the wake by way of apology - unfortunately it’s on the back of an obligation in Lithgow and I’d look like I fell out of a rubbish truck if I then zoomed down.

I’ve only just stumbled across this, so I apologise for the slow reply. I’ve taken a few years off from the forum as I couldn’t deal with all of the BS around Covid and have only logged on a few times over the last three years. I met Rog just over 20 years back before Russell made AFF what is today. I was doing a Melbourne - Sydney - Adelaide triangle and Rog was with Bunkers Still doing the Wagga - Goondiwindi shuttle run. We’d sometimes chat during the night when we had a signal about all the things wrong with the world and how we’d fix them. Rog was a decent down to earth bloke who understood why I stepped away and it’s funny how you can not chat with someone for a few years and then just pick back up from where you left from like it was yesterday.

R.I.P Roger

Thanks for posting this mate, I’ve just finished watching it. I feel very sad but also guilty for not being on the forum and knowing about this at the time. Had I have known, I would have been there in the second row with the fellas from AFF. I don’t drink but I’ll be cracking a can of V later on tonight when I’m in my truck for Roger.

Cheers,
Danny

My story is similar to Full Noise, taking some time away for personal reasons.

Just watched the video and afterwards, felt like I'd been peeling onions. Listening to all of the tributes taught me so much about Roger and his endearing personality. He was such a great man, father, grandfather and great grandfather. CAVs speech was spot on as a representative of LNSO.

To all of us here, he was a good mate, and I will miss him dearly.

If there was cake at the reception, I hope others apart from CAV got to have some.

RIP Roger.
