Au Cai

Hey guys, Im going to get a stainless steel cai piping made up for my au, i read the au mods guide on the site and seen they were talking about 80-90mm pipe, will this clamp on to the throttle body alright?? and also should i get 80 or the 90mm?? just needed some help guys who know about this or have done it before cheers.

3" is the throttle body so if u use 3" piping u will be in teh clear. BTW silicon with squash down if need be

Thanks, is it expensive to get made up at an exhaust place?? do i just take in the factory piping and say " can u make this shape up in 75mm stainless steel pipe??"

id just go to a metal fab place or engineering place (i got mine done at a marine place many many moons ago)

with a pod filter is it illegal to not have it fully enclosed?? Im in nsw and i wasnt sure what the rules on this are. I usually have a k&n high flow panel filter in the air box with the xr8 snorkel, but i just put the pod on(straight off the piping behind the air box) and it seemed to go great just wanted to kno guys so i can leave it or start building a box

no idea i am in QLD, a nice alternative to that problem is the BA XR8/GT Pod filter, which has its own enclosure and cold air feed

Depending on the size of the pod filter, it can usually be squeezed into the standard air box with a bit of plumbing.
The problem IMO, is not whether it's legal or not, it's the fact that it's drawing hot air from the engine bay.
Sort of defeats the purpose of 'cold air induction'.

In short, hot is very bad, cold air is great.

Ive got a 9" long by 3" wide K&N pod in my factory airbox, and it fits - just. I did have to trim the top corner of the lid off because its bolted directly onto the MAF but I have also put the same filter into an EL XR6 airbox and it is a good fit. Ive got the SS inductions intake on the ute (didnt pay for it thank god) and have also cut the front off the airbox directly behind the headlight (on an XR this works well, on a Forte etc not so well). This all works ok but I am ditching the lot in favour of a purpose built Bluepower-style box which I should hopefully have ready in about 3 weeks.

I was thinking about doing the same thing, but i'd rather get a bluepower or G&D airbox, mainly because it looks better and more professionally done, and im sure there performance well be better too.

Ok I have a SS inductions Big mouth on my XR8, burn me if you want but all I could find when I realised I had booked it in for a tune with no CAI, anyway my question is, can a BA/BF F6 bottom of the airbox fit an AU? What are they worth? and whats the alternatives and costs associated with these alternatives? I have a K&N panel filter that I want to retain if possible..

And while I'm at it has anyone changed MAF's and TB's? What have you done? and where did you source it from? Has anyone got any MAF's or TB's from the states? and what sort of costs for these too?

Overall whats the best CAI setup from airbox through to TB?

Don't know about alternatives, but in short the answer is no.

I tried that the other day on my AU, and the BA lower box has a different curve in the bottom of the box which doesn't allow it to sit on the AU "pan" properly. Bolt holes are identical though...

In saying that, to fix it you could *probably* hit the BA lower section with a heat gun then press it into the AU spot, but you'd have to be careful how you go about that due to deformation...

If that doesn't make sense let me know and I'll try and get a photo sorted out to explain

Have you looked into prices? I was on the G&D site & it was nearly $700 last year.
