Default H vs Heat dillemma

After trying to sell my AU1 XR6 for quite a while, I've been offered a trade. Car in question:

EF XR8
Auto
Cruise control
250,000km
Ex NSW police (genuine option 20)
headers
exhaust
bright red

My heart wants the v8, head says keep the AU. My au also has headers and exhaust, cruise control, momo wheel, auto, and about 180,000km. Thoughts? I know I could buy much better if I had cash but selling my car is really very difficult and I want something different.

The V8 will be slower than the AU Id say, and its older.
Stick with the AU.

what were your reasons for selling the AU?

were you going to update/downsize/have one less car/reduce running costs/etc.

does the EF 'fit' with the original reason for selling the AU?

Keep the AU.

If you get the ex HP car you going backwards a looong way......

Extra 100,000 k's.

'Bright Red'! has it been resprayed? if so, why?

Thrashed when new by NSW HP and how many "carefull" owners has it had since then?

Unless you know the cars whole history and it can be backed up with books stick with the 6 until you find a nice AU XR8

Why would you even consider it?
Its an EF
Its a V8
and its ex Police.

add all that together and you have one clapped out thrashed 15yo+ piece of poo.
It may be hard to sell your car at the moment, but your better off keeping it than trade it for this.

Ex Police cars arent some collectable awesome piece of history either - usually just means they've been thrashed to death, then passed onto the public to suffer with it.

Planned on selling the AU because its just not as "fun" as I hoped itd be. Its only a weekend car, and fuel economy and stuff doesnt matter. Id like a car that will smoke the tyres until 2nd gear, a car that doesnt down change up steep hills, a car that will be a match against others next time I go the drags and a car that just works whether its the town run for groceries or fanging up a twisty road at 3am. The AU does that all well, no question, I just want something that does it all better and sounds better aswell

I didnt mean "genuine option 20" as it being collectable. I meant it as it being an option 20. The general consensus here seems to be keep the AU. Im really not sure, heart wants the v8. Heart usually wins.

Its also got a bit to do with my car coming up to needing a expensive overhaul. Bushes, windscreen and cat converter need replacing, has a weird intermittent starting problem, paint is gradually getting worse, tyres are getting on and the rego is due. Say if I could get the XR8 and $1000 cash for mine, would it be a good deal then? Id imagine the XR8 being better at most of that stuff with its torque, Im not sure which engine it has, he mentioned "HO 220KW" but I either heard him wrong or it has in fact been transplanted. Ill find out more next week, when I meet up with him.

Sounds like you've made the right call Dave....I reckon if you'd gone through with it all, you'd be sitting there in a month thinking to yourself "Why?"

Something better will come up.....just be patient

Who wants to bet you would get a totally different consensus if you asked in the ozecruisers section?

Go the EF. You'll love it, and it's a not as a big a step backwards (except in age) as some might believe.

So JC, you do acknowledge that it is a step backwards :

JC is right in so far as it's not as big a step backwards as some might believe.
But it's still a big enough step for me to say no way. If you really want an XR8 get something that doesn't have a flat roof and square doors.

I know it's nothing to do with the thread, but I'm amazed that one line could take up so much of the page
