Default A big plug

I'd like to publicly thank Les from Les Small Performance Motors in Melbourne for his outstanding effort over and beyond the call of duty. His engine building prowess is nothing short of legendary and he's proven to be a top bloke as well and very personable.

Ok, so this is a bit of a saga but here goes. Last week I bid on and won an Ebay auction for a Smartbar roobar for my SII AU wagon for the princely sum of $50 :thebirds: , yes, that's right, $50.00 but as I'm in Pt Lincoln in SA and the bar is in Melbourne I had to get it picked and freighted to me. So I called a freight company and organised for it to be picked up then called the guy who had the bar who gave me his work address to pick it up from but I didn't get the business name or phone number so all I had was his mobile # and an address. The only other info I had was the fact that he was driving someone else's car when I called him. That was monday afternoon. Fast forward to friday afternoon and my roobar still hadn't arrived so I got on the phone but couldn't get any answer from the seller and without a con note # the freight company couldn't trace my bar, hmmm, what to do?????............. I figured if he was selling a car part and driving someone else's car that maybe he was in the car business; maybe a panel beater or detailer or something so I went to the online yellow pages and put in "Auto" in the search function and the suburb and went looking. I couldn't find him by the address but what I did discover was they were on a loop road with only one way in and out and there were a few auto businesses there as I found a few on the same road but not the one I was looking for. So out of desperation I thought I'd ring the nearest place (#74)to the address I had (#92) and ask if they knew who was at 92. Well the first guy I rang barely spoke english and I got nowhere so then I rang the next nearest place (#52) which was Les Small Performance Motors . I told the bloke on the other end my dilemma and asked if he happened to know who was round the bend at #92 and the response I got was " no mate I don't but give me half an hour and I'll go round the corner and have a look for ya and find out". After thanking him profusely and introducing myself I discovered it was the man himself Mr Les Small on the phone. So half an hour later I rang back and got the info I needed and tracked down my roobar all thanks to a bloke who went out of his way for a stanger. So again I say a great big THANK YOU to Les for taking time out of your day and going out of your way to help someone out even though there was absolutely nothing in it for you. You're a legend in more ways than one.

Cheers

That is very good service for a stranger who had nothing to offer the business. Good on Les!

What exactly is the address of Les Small Performance Motors? For such service it may be worth breaking a bit of the rules and giving his place a plug. Address, phone number, sort of car he deals in.. that sort of stuff!

Les Small is an Engine builder extrodinare and legendary from group C and group A days.
From memory and for those old enough to remember Les is famous for building bathurst winning motors for gicey in the 80s' and HDT before that as I recall. I don't know what he's been doing lately but when Brock and Grice went over to europe in the mid 80s' the reason Gricey was able to mix it with the front runners and lead most of the races before Graham "Chickadee Chicken" Bailey beached the car most of the time was thanks to Les Small engines that consistantly made 40+more HP than what Brock could muster which is why Brock was always mid field. It was Gricey in the Chickadee Chicken Commodore with a Les Small engine in 86 that set the first 100mph average lap at Bathurst leaving everyone in his wake to win that year.
