Default Mod time LS Zetec

Don't you hate the sound of crunching plastic and tearing metalwork when all you do is reverse into a concrete pole.... sheesh I'll take this opportunity to repair all the little parking lot dings and scrapes too.

While I'm at it I have a cat back free flow exhaust going on @ $420 plus fitting not bad for a stainless system.

One question tho has anyone compared a pod vs just modifying the std airbox? I mean there's some gains in removing the snorkel / silencer from under the guard but are there more gains in simply junking the whole airbox and running a pod.....?

Hmmm....

You would more than likely run into issues with the engine only being able to intake hot air from the engine bay, unless you live in canberra.

A pod in the engine bay will send you backwards fast, even with a heat shield. Fitting a pod into the airbox and running CAI from infront of the radiator to the bottom of the airbox would be good, apart from the pod that's what I've done with mine. I'd think that a good panel filter and CAI would make the same power as the pod, but i could be wrong...sure sounds better with the airbox off

Remove the entire stock intake system. Get some aluminium piping and a few silicon joiners/elbows, then run the alu pipe from the throttle body down to behind the fog lamps. Then fabricate a heat shield and screw it onto the chassis between the engine and the pod filter. Minimal heat induction, and a great pod filter roar!

Nah just take the front passenger wheel, take the inner guard off, then de-clamp the filter. Wouldn't take any more time than replacing the current filter.

Yup, I'd agree with that being the best solution, if not the easiest. Just for gods sake, don't buy piping from retail stores like Auto one in those little monza packets. it's expensive. Just find a piping supplier in your area and buy from them, 2.5 inch 316 stainless bends are about $22 each...

I have the exhaust on now, as expected absolutely no diff in power but the sound is wonderful... I can hear the thing now and might stop stalling it.

The piping for the inlet gets looked at next week then into the panel shop for final repairs.

With the exhaust, any change to the manifold/cat?

No BLS just a simple bolt up to cat job. I was only after a voice. I think some gains are lurking on the inlet side though.... coughturbocough..... not a bad idea actually..

On the way home I noticed it does seem more eager until it slumps at around 5500.

I kept up with a 5l VS commodore easily until the second third change up when he took 3 car lengths and wouldn't give them back.

Yeah I think the inlet is in need of some tinkering now.
