Default Automatic closure of threads
On many occasions I see what appears to be a new thread with about 50 posts magicly appear. Sometimes this is hot topic but usually it is a million year old thread that someone has dug up and decided to make a comment on.

I suggest that it might be a good policy to auto-close any or at least some threads that are not posted to for a period of 3 or 6 months.

This would keep the discussion area current and if required any admin/mod could re-open a closed thread.

Thoughts?

The only problem (in the tech sections not the chit chat areas) is that sometimes newbies might have a question or something to add. I'd rather see a thread mined than a new one that gets rehashed over and over.. In the bar and pub though I'm all for flappists idea

Tibbo i would agree with you, the reason we post is for others to learn and add there thought comments and there personal experience.
The info we post today may still be relevant to a member for many years to come.

yea agree completely. a few times when i've needed to know something i have dug around in the old threads and found out what i needed to know

I thought the vBulletin application might have this as an optional feature. Obviously not.

I wouldnt like this to happen in the au section, often there are threads that are dug up that are of interest as things change and people revisit the topic.
Maybe ok in the Bar or Pub but many area's have threads this wouldnt apply to.
