Anyway Prob Roosta can help you out, looks like he loves doing that sort of stuff with AWESOME results....

I have 6.5 Inch Speakers in my EF Front Doors, pretty sure all e-series have the same hole, is the Door Pod the look you want or you need it as they just dont fit?

Never has my avatar been so appropriate.

Anyway. For your speakers all you need to do is fit EB2 or ED door trims & make the hole on the door itself bigger.

I have a series 1 EB (came factory with 4" fronts), but I have ED (Futura, I think) door trims. That makes the now 6.5" front splits look (almost) factory. All I did to enlarge the hole was trace the inside diametre of the speaker mount ring & drill lots of holes to remove the metal. I then tidied it up with a semi round file. Drilled 3 holes to attach new speakers & violla, an EB1 with 6.5" splits.

All good and that but I think Buying new door trims is dearer then getting door pods...

Fair enough, but if you want cheap pods you will have to make them yourself I think. Door trims should not be that expensive. Heck, I got 2 spare doors off eBay with door trims & glass for $5 each a few months ago. Actually, modifying your door trims to fit your new speaker grilles in the factory fashon wouldn't be that hard surley. In fact, I think it would be easier than fitting the larger speaker to the door itself.

Go with pods if that is what you prefer, but I like the fact that mine looks factory to a thief in a hurry. It also requires the removal of the door trims to take the speakers out, unlike some pods where a smash & grab is devastatingly effective (happened to a friend of mine while we were at the movies). Just something to consider.

Do you know if I could just cut a larger hole in my door trims and bolt the speakers to that?

As long as you cut the required metal off the door itself (as described above) then I don't see why not.

The main advantage of the factory style grille is the concealment of the speaker itself. Hides it better & makes it harder (more time consuming) to steal. Fitting a 6.5" flat grille to the back of your door trim would have the same effect though, allowing you to fit the speaker into the door in the above manner.

Hello all,

One problem with fittin 6.5" speakers in the factory location is that they are too deep and rub and scratch your window and tint..

MDF spacers can fix this but i have found putting 6.5's in the doors without properly sealing and deadening the door results in the same performance as a set of 6"s or even a decent set of 4"s.. so why not just save the hassles and pick up a set of 6" splits or watever to start with..

And yes i can make pods to suit ..

Cheers,
Nik

Yay! I have allready purchased a set of speakers off e-Bay (6.5")...There only 150W'ers but they are better then my rooted 4" (they can't handle the BASS)

Worth measuring how deep the magnet of the speaker is.. if its any deeper than 60mm you are gonna need a spacer.. 62mm hits the window..

Keep in mind that you cant use to big a spacer other wise door doesn't close properly and trim looks strained and warped..

Cheers,
Nik
