Default what now??

hi all , i have only just logged onto ford forums and i must say i love the set up..

I have a question, well i few, for all of you.

i have only just bought a 5.0L NL Fairlane ghia
(120000klms), and i am just wondering what modifications i could do to the engine to get some more undiscovered power out!!

when i bought it, it had a rear muffler on it, which gives it a nice note, but i want things to give me more power. i havent got a great deal of knowledge into the mod side of cars, but i know a fair bit from books and stuff..

I have about $3000 to spend, where should i start, what should i get, what brands are the best, how much they are roughly going to cost...etc...

the car only has the standard mags that come with it, but the new wheels have been ordered (AU XR 18" replica).

so any suggestions??

thanks in advance.

cheers

BEN

Im assuming its an auto... so,
Get a 2800 stall $400-500
Regrind Cam $300 not inc. labor
Diff change to a 3.45 or 3.7 $800-1000
Unichip $500 second hand.. not inc tune (200-300)
Slightly bigger injectors to suite big cam ($400)
And maybe one of those $50 shift kits from ebay..
With the rest, get a nice intake setup happening and you will be smoking (pod in a box maybe)

Hope it helps.

Welcome aboard.

The first thing I would have said is a full exhaust/extractors!

NOS kit, UNICHIP and a tune.....should be able to do all that for under 3k. I believe there is a guy on Fordmods.com that runs 12's with a stock 5.0 and a squirt of NOS.

stainless or mild steel??? would it be the go to get extractors, front muffler, rear muffler, high flow cats. are these all neccessary?? and how much u reckon would be a reasonable price, and could you fit them yourself??

Hi mate Welcome.
go genie or pacemakers, if you intend on keeping the carfor awhile go stainless, std car and freer flowing muffler, i dont run a resonator and have a full 3inch single system and NO droning.
Or you could even buy a set off jethot with ceramic coating in mild steel for less that stainless.. then you could "Have the power"
sorry had to do that .. He-man fan when i was a kid.

Have a look in the Windsor forums mate Most of the guys in the E-series section wouldn't have a clue about the 5.0

If it were my cash I would get.
Pacemaker PH4000 headers $550
2.5" or 3" exhaust $3-400
An explorer manifold from an AU or EL update $7-900

I've got that combo in my EL Ghia and it goes alright (15.4 before the manifold)

Once you've done that stuff, you should look at better heads like some GT40P's or aftermarket stuff like AFR's.

As Kenaz stated, for a 5.0, you might want to swap the manifold. Turf the HO and source a cheap Explorer for ~$700ish. No good throwing in a cam & stuff if you're choking the 5.0 with a HO.

Almost everyone refers to it as NOS. It abreviates Nitrous Oxide System anyway so it doesnt really matter if its a brand or not.
