So i've got the opportunity to buy a October 2004 BA MkII Futura Sedan for the right price ($3200). It's only got 400k on the clock, SVI Gas and a fully rebuilt IRS system.
Talk me out of why I shouldn't get a BA please, because I'm having a hard time resisting!

ooh ooh weaker g'box/diff, fly by wire, not as comfy/cheaper interior, the dodgies you hear about parts, fit and finish, driveline issues.. uhm ah... well, if that ba seems to be in top condition, and at 400K on the clock where most of the problems would have been fixed, why not get it? specially if you want somthing fresher/modern/different to your au?

No one can really speak for yourself regarding a purchase its your choice.
I really couldn't put myself in your shoes as I wouldn't even consider buying it Ba or not with 400k's no matter what been rebuilt.....

Yes i do have doubts. I like my AU's personality, I don't want to end up with some appliance as a car. My point is, is my AU great because it's a Falcon or great because it's an AU?

Is the BA going to be a replacement for the AU or an addition?
It is cheap enough to be worth it, SVI gas and all that. |

Yeah the BA would replace the AUII. It's currently got 687k just fyi, and ran 120 & 125 rwhp on the dyno on gas and petrol respectively. Yes, HP not KW. Probably starting to get a little tired.

The AU is good because its an AU. But the BA is good because its a BA, both the cars have pro's and con's. As mentioned by now at 400k the BA should have most issues sorted out. If it's what you want an the price is right, then take it.
But... Will you like your BA the way you like your AU?

If I had my time again, I'd never touch a series I BA....But that's from my experience with them.

Have you thought about reconditioning the AU motor to freshen it up - if nothing else is wrong and you still like the feel of an AU, I would consider that as an option.
On the other hand, the BA is relatively cheap for the k's it has travelled, and if you just want a change then go the BA. I've driven BA's, including a Boss derivative, and I've stuck with the AUXR8 - my personal choice though. |

Put a fresh motor in the AU and be done with it. You know it's a good reliable car whereas the BA is a gamble. Besides BA's are bland, may aswell buy a camry. Au's have some character *flamesuit*

your not going get too many guys here wanting to talk you out of an AU and into a B series,Ive had a BA ghia v8 ,I just never felt comfortable driving it compared to my 3 AU's, Xr6,Ghia and SR. nor did it look as good,a later BF2 is alot better though and I would almost replace my SR with a XR6/8 ZF auto though.

Hey Hardware, The BA-BF has been a much better taxi than all other falcon models previous, esspesially regarding electrics, interior including seats longevity, and gearboxes. The major let downs have been with the thing that ford like to call a diff, and very unreliable rear outer roses joints (rectified as per your post) If u decide to purchase, install a Nolathane diff mount and u won't have to replace it again. Ive found that even a standard BA driven properly can outhandle an AU hands down especially on high speed cornering. Go for it, it's time for a change, my next car will probably be a BA XR8 running a GT42......
P.S. Just be aware that BA's will be a little noisy in the rear, turn u the sterio and u'll be right........ Later

My personal view is, why pay $3k for a BA with 400,000 kms when for $5k you can buy a BA with 160,000 kms?
I'd happily pay $2k if it meant driving a car that had travelled between 200,000 kms and 250,000 kms less!

Having owned an AU1, AU2 and two BAs, I'd go back to the BA in a heart beat. The AU is a great car, but the BA is arguably nicer to drive and the Futura is a comfy cruiser. That said, I did miss certain features in my AUs when I had the B series.

high mileage AU vs BA the BA will win hands down. The interior is alot more robust, the engine won't leak and weep. You "might" have a little timing gear rattle on the Barra, but think of it as an AU diff- It can make the nosie for 300k and not implode.
A tired and worn out rear end would be where any serious money was to be spent and that box is checked off so imho go for it
