Yes Seto is the legend and he keeps on truckin, painfully close to a podium at Hidden Valley with a 4th position.

Can't wait to get to Oran Park to cheer the legend on. Glenn Seton Racing was the team that intially threw their weight behind Ford's return to V8 racing in 1992. The results were a 1-2 in the first V8 Forumla championship of 1993, Glenn Seton 1st and Alan Jones in 2nd. HRT couldn't replicate the feat, only another Ford team in 2004 thanks to Stone Brothers.

DJR managed to give the EB Falcon a Bathurst crown in 1994.

The EB Falcon was a true effort by Ford, I think they ran Carbon Fibre front spoilers which produced real down force however Holden ran Fibre Class undertrays that easily shattered during impact and didn't produce much downforce.

However Holden was thoroughly destroyed by the EB and the powers to be decided that they needed to be fixed and Holden was given a chance to redo the Commodore and came back with a race winner. Pity Ford was given a chance with the AU.

Thanks Trouty for getting that article. It's a good read. I think it's funny that when the Supercars first came out, the 2.0 Litre lobby were saying that they would outlive the Aussie "dinosaurs" (p04). How wrong they were. Also thanks to Injected_250 for finding info on the Allan Moffat Cenovis EB. That was a great car. Reading about how they got the Banana Boat sponsorship brought back a lot of memories. I remember watching 96' Bathurst when I was young, and supporting the black and yellow "Banana" car. I would have been about 12 at the time. Those were the days before I started following Ford, and before I became a true petrolhead.

Actually the Sierras and Skylines were totally owning the local models, so a new 5 litre V8 formula was set up, the V8 Supercars. Otherwise Bathurst would probably be a drift event by now...

It is interesting to note from the in-car pictures of the very first V8 Supercars:

- that the interior was much less clutered and the roll cage was not so obtrusive. The interiors of today's equivalents are much more claustrophobic
- the drivers postion was almost identical to the road cars. Today they sit further back and closer to the ground

I laugh at the 2 litres claiming that they would outlast the 5 litres. Although I am not a major fan of either category (as I prefer that 'tin top' racing is a production series formula) I support the V8s as they have more relevance to Australia than the 2 litre category.

I miss the old Amaroo circuit. Although the V8s outgrew this track it was a good circuit for other categories.

Although I agree with the elmination of cigarette sponsorship I think that it is also unfair. Nobody questions alcohol companies sponsoring motorsport. Yet more people have died from drink-driving than people who have dropped a cigarette while driving.

I remember One bathurst either 91, 92, 93, when the guy who drove the B&H BMW died when he had a heart attack behind the wheel.

I cant remember his name, does anyone remember the incident? I remember being 5 or 6 and it was the first time i'd seen anyone die in a racing accident.

That was Denny Hulme, it was Bathurst '92. There was another guy that died in the '86 race, i think his name was Mike Bergman? got airborne and went over the armco just before the bridge down the old Conrod (where the exit to the chase is approaching murray's corner now). Ahhh, those were the days. If anyone doesn't have The Great Race collection on DVD, get it now, some awesome racing.

LOL @ Bathurst being a drift race without v8's. On that DVD^ there's a great shot of the jap Starion driver f-ing up the downshift and drifting forrest elbow. Cant believe he didn't stack it e
