pedal box

Hey fellas

I need some info on removing my pedal box. My clutch pedal is starting to squeek somethin shocking, so i presume the box is a about to sh*t itself. If any one could give me some pointers that'd be swoite

PS. I dont want to remove the dash!!!!

removal of pedal box = removal of dash.

Heh, fun. Five 8mm (I think) bolts under the plastic trim at the top of the dash. Two more bolts in the footwells, and a couple under the radio area.

Move the dash forward and you will see at the top three big nuts, these are the biggest pain. And then there are two under the steering column and five under the pedals. Actually, the biggest pain is manouvering the pedal box in and out from under the dash.

(Assuming ED-EL are the same)

well they have these stupid little plastic washers in there, stik ya head under
undo the pin thing that clips it in place
and check out the plastic things, there like 20cents each at a ford dealer, i think it may be them


or it may be rubbing against loom or anything under there

Nah its a full squeeking/creeking noise, definately sounds like the pedal box :/

(stupid little plastic washers) are wat move between the pedal shaft hole in the pedal boxs shaft for it...

I have some pics and then you can make a decision on what you want to do......good luck. not a quick job if you havent done it before.







and put every bolt back in tight as you will get rattles which drive you mad!!
and replace the blades for the air con fan as well. I didnt and now im kicking myself!!!!!

Are you SURE it is the Pedal Box? Could be the Clutch cable clevis OR the bushes in there? Usually the Clutch Pedal Shaft will break the weld around the base of it and your clutch pedal willl skew sideways?

Check all that FIRST before ya start throwing money around pulling too much stuff off?

If you're talking about the heater box fan, then you dont need to pull the dash out to replace it. Just take the glovebox out, and the surrounding trim, then take the footwell duct off and you have access to the fan.

ahhh this would be sweet as i was told the dash had to come out. thanks on the heads up now i my car will like me again!!!

Thanks for the top info guys I havent had a chance to have a crack at it yet, should give it a go this afternoon. I really dont want to know the outcome though lol

Pulling off the dash could give me a chance to fix the aircon noise. Sounds like a leak when i turn it on, sort of like a constant gushing noise from the passenger front under the dash. Too many things to maintain and fix :(

if it's a creaking noise then I will put my money on the pedal box being split where the clutch pedal pivot mount is. Drives you insane I know, and the clutch pedal goes in on a slight angle which in turn will eventually wear out your cable. Ford didn't do a very good job of making the pedal box, just spot welding on a second plate of steel to try and strengthen that point.

Like everyone else has said, it's a dash out job. Once you get the pedal box out, bash the cracked/bent bits back into place over a vice or something. Then crack out the welder and go sick. I used two welding rods on mine so it's never gonna break again lol! good luck with it.
