Saw a real weird one today, wonder if anyone else has seen anything like it?
It was the a new Mitsubishi Lancer cop car, looked to be base model, fully marked, flashing light and all in NSW police colours. Had LSP, At least I think it was LSP on the bonnett, which makes no sense to me as the local cars are marked TL (Tuggerah), BW (Gosford) or LM (Lake Macquarie). Any how a weird one, I guess the NSW coppers are trialing new General duties cars to save on petrol budget, cant see how a 2.0l Lancer would hold up to full cop duties loaded to the gills with gear. No pics as it was driving the other way of the Pacific Highway, but if i see one outside the local stations when i go past i get a picture.

No EVOs ... just FWD models that roll out of the showroom.
These are just GDs vehicles.

Yeah definately base model not an evo.
So there seems to be a few of them around. It looked pretty good to be honest in police spec, but it would have to be slow as a wet week. SLP as banarcus said, 'School Liaison Police', sounded like what it would be suited for.

Yeah its a base model lancer. They're trialling them to replace the standard cop cars (falcons with steel rims) as these cars rarely get in chases. It's to save petrol/money.

yeh, the falcon and commodore police cars days are numbered. A police friend of mine had said that the government was looking into more fuel efficent cars to run the police fleet with, and that in about 18-24 months most falcon and commodores would be no longer used. The exception being an xr6t for hwy patrol duties at best. So these must be some of the small cars currently being trialed. Well, so if been told anyways.

Few weeks ago saw a black Kia Magentis POS all done up in police stickers and lights etc. Frankly, I think this is dumb and the school liaison is just another window dressing technique used by a tired old government that has enough trouble rising beyond the spin. The fact that these losers will no longer support Australian jobs for the lancer and Kia is telling; just one look at the NSW exodus of businesses leaving the state shows how inept and incompetent that they as a government are. Firstly they tax the ever loving crap out of everyone, then they appoint all their old mates into senior 150K pa plus positions, then they wonder why they have no money. Never mind the fact that they never accomplish real outcomes; this police school crap is a farce and like everything else it will fall by the wayside as the PC intelligentsia determine however else they can ruin others lives for their own super inflated egoes and self flagellation.
Police and School Liaison? Please. How about the NSW government actually forces the judges to put people in prison first instead of giving them warnings? End Rant.

they sound like school constable vehicles. Not actual patrol cars.
Hell, we have Astra's dna Nissian Tiida's up here in full cop gear. Used for schools or detective's transport

If they put ricer stickers on the Lancer, no ricer will try and outrun it because it would have like 100 extra HP over theirs.

On tuesday night, at about half past midnight, a red FPV F6 with full highway stickers, was fueling up as I pulled into the Manly (QLD) BP. Looked good. I wasnt aware they were still using them. Plus I thought it was odd to see it so far from the highway. I'm used to seeing Crewman paddy wagons, Falcons, Terrys, and Commodores.
I dont see a problem with replacing SOME of the police patrol fleet with smaller cars, but not all. Maybe 45% small cars, 55% larger cars. They'd make a big fuel saving like that, and yet still have larger cars around for assistance should it be required.

Ditto. Saw a base model looking white Lancer eastbound on Picton Rd Thurs PM with dashboard lights flashing.
Sitting on 102 km/h westbound so no pics or other details to report... Dunno what was up with that...

Theres a few Lancers getting around, and 380s are not rare by any stretch of the imagination.
I have also seen a few Mazdas, a fully marked Suzuki Jimny (no kidding!) and plenty of Territories. I have even seen an old AU S1 around Lithgow - fully marked but no lightbar... weird (this was ~3 months ago so recent)

Had one come in a few weeks back for a service (I work for mitsubishi) Its just a base model lancer with a pile of excess weight to lug around. An evo 10 would be a much better car to catch criminals in and you might actually be able to catch those idiots in those silly WRX's
