Geez... and who said that the chinese auto industry had some room for improvement?
*cough* Some of the nicer features (geez those google translations are fantastic arent they): - comfort CD system - eight inch LCD super - a tail that "depends on probe ergonomics" - prudent elegance - tail support ring for smoother transition Me like good, very super!

Very Hideous,
However in the same breath scary for the rest of the world, because what you are seeing is the 1st attempt by a chinese car company to design their own sports car. Dong Feng pronouced (don fon) stands for Third automobile manufacturer (Translated) and it primarily makes trucks. Big ugly 1930's looking trucks and there are hundreds of thousands of them in China. They have an enormous amount of money floating around and they want to capture the chinese market and then the world. Sure this thing looks like something that is in a japanses anime movie that can play loud acordian music during a super pro battle with a mutant alien robot, but once the ball starts rolling this comapny will start to eat into traditional markets that we take as granted. They will improve and in the future they will be sold in Australia and people you know will own one. Just like Toyota, do not underestimate them! The yanks make that mistake every time, the Chinese tend not to keep making the same mistake, look at american cars through the years, and every generation has an ugly child, Ford Taurus anyone! That wasn't so long ago was it. Just my opinion after working in Shanghai and being in the automotive industry at a reasonably high level.

There was a bit in the media about how Chinese aesthetic values were different to Western ones. Japan has pandered to the western ideals a lot of the time so they can make cars that look okay to us. A car that looks good to a Chinese guy may look different to what I think looks good. The thing is China is a huge untapped market and if Australia is only going to take 2000 a year of a certain model and China will take 30,000 you can bet that the looks will be skewed to appeal in the market with the highest number of sales. Be prepared for some weird looking cars to roll out in the future…

neat trick - drive with the boot open and fil it in with that accordian stuff. You get more boot space and better aerodynamics.
When can we buy these fill in things to suit Fords from ebay? |

Good Lord... the designer of that needs help.
On a tangent, I saw something the other day... looked a bit like a Lexus... only it wasn't. It might have been a Ssangyong or something... regardless of what it was, it looked terrible. I have no doubt that the Chinese industry will catch up to the other big global manufacturers, but frankly it won't matter a jot if they don't start employing decent designers. Can't think of anyone who'd think this car looks good...

I never thought the AU was bad. Different..yes, but I don't think the AU looked all that bad.
There are worst cars out there. I prefer the looks of an AU over a Camry of the day. The Camry of the day backtracked to the 1980s in shithouse fashion. No, the AU was good. |
