Default Head machining in SE Melbourne

I want to get an EF head crack and vac tested, as well as get it machined, not a full reco etc. So can someone point me in the right direction please? SE Melbourne or close to, as I CBF travelling far.

How much has it cost everyone else?

Just dropped the head off to Head Torque in Rowville. $110 for head machining, crack testing etc, plus $25 for new head bolts and $85 for the (what I assume) AU gasket - he said it was "the good one that doesn't have the problems" or something hehe...

So fingers crossed there is nothing wrong with the head.

Ah for f$%k's sake. As soon as I wrote that last reply, the guy called up saying it's got a crack around number three and will need to be welded and obviously get a fricken' reco. $330. Pfft.

I did a head gasket on the weekend. Did it myself in 8 hours and cost $60.

Stick that in your head mill and machine it.

Couldn't be fuc#ed screwing around so I just let Head Torque do the reco. Apparently there were two cracks in the frigging head LOL! But it's all sweet now.

I got a "graphite" head gasket set, these any good?

Now the fun part of trying to put it back together.

Can someone tell me what G-O is with TDC? I haven't released the tensioner.. What sealant should I be using? Is there a special type?

That looks like a pretty decent job - make sure you lube the camshaft journals before you stick the cam in!
A "graphite" head gasket is a standard EA-EL head gasket - the AU one is a triple layered steel job, and afaik is only available from Ford. Should be $80-90 or so retail, from what I have heard.

I was informed the new Stock headgaskets are now Graphite but never use to be. I remember when my motor was reco'd I was the first person that Maxitorque sold a graphite one too. Prevously they were some other material ive gone blank on. NO difference really. Just nice to say :P
