Guys,
Driving home Saturday evening, only about 1klm from home and lost power. The car felt like it was running 4-5 cylinders. Limped home and off to the mechanics the following day. So far the mechanic has checked, plugs, leads, coil packs, done a compression test and three cylinders are low on compression, no knocking noises or tapping to suggest internal problems. It actually felt like when one of my coil packs went. The mechanic has suggested perhaps the timing chain has jumped causing the motor being out of timing, but reluctantly he does not want to start pulling things apart before a proper diagnosis of the engine seeking a second opinion from his other mechanic friend for a brain storming session. By the way he conduct a code scan as well, all good from the scan. Any suggestions or has anyone had the same issue with their 220’s. My coil packs are only two years old as well, the original motorcraft packs from Ford. The car has only done 155,000. Cheers |

Hi, Check to make sure there is spark going to each spark plug.
If there is spark there, could be fuel filter blockage or even the fuel pump, which on my AU2 XR8 broke apart from old age (2015) causing starting problems. Just started but ran like crap. |

Another simple thing that you can check is the voltage output from the alternator while the engine is running - it should be ~ 14.5 volts.
I've seen 2 x 220's lose power (and even stall) due to a faulty alternator.

Guys,
Update, just received a telephone call from mechanic, eliminating all electricals, took the rocker cover off on the passenger side and noticed a crack in the valve spring, which in some sense is good news. I believe this is a common problem with these motors. Now, what’s the best aftermarket spring package for these motors. Clearly the factory springs are not built too last. Any help would be great. The heads will be staying on. Won’t be taking the heads off, unless I really have too. Find out more tomorrow. Suggestions would be great. Cheers |

Crow or Crane, fairly common problem, have done 3 in mine over the years. Easy enough to replace with head on, with the piston at the top of cylinder there's only minimal clearance to top of piston. Strangely enough they all have been on the drivers side bank
