Interceptor seems a strange name for something with super high profile baggy tyres on steel rims

I guess that's so they can mount Curbs as well as be cheap. they still perform ok.
well the Taurus version does.. (article from 2015)

i big fat full chassis car with agricultural suspension designed for a 220lb driver to be driven over kerbs and fire hydrants

i love crown vic's they are like a modern 2wd ute with a sedan body chucked ontop, now at least they have put on a body that looks more like a 4x4

the new one will no doubt be faster and handle better than any crown vic.

my bad the new explorer is unibody built off the c platform i think, so FWD/AWD based. the cop car i don't know how its AWD/RWD but i guess its the same unibody

Aren’t they 200hp 4 speed auto V8 which take about 10 seconds to hit 100?!

Explorer and Aviator are on the new CD6 RWD/AWD architecture known as CD6,
Mustang will be joining it in 2022.

Ford dominated the police market with the Crown Victoria and then pivoted with the FWD/AWD Taurus PI and
Explorer PI Ute rising to diminish its sedan companion, currently Ford owns around 62% of the US Law Enforcement
vehicle sales. It's expected that the new RWD/AWD Explorer will take that even further with a pursuit rated
3.3 V6, 3.3 V6 Hybrid, 3.0 V6 Ecoboost - these engines will most likely filter through to Bronco and Gen 2 Ranger.

The current Explorer/Taurus production line goes down around April next year for around six weeks. After that,
Taurus disappears and the plant begins building Explorers, Aviators and Explorer PIs.

A RHD Explorer is something I would consider.

Our SZ Territory Diesel is just over 4 years old and just ticked over 100K km. It’s a great vehicle, it’s my daily driver and I’m very happy with it.

Looks like we’ll be keeping it longer as Endura doesn’t appeal to me.

It's not a Territory. This is one size up on that.

Endura is the closest thing in size, if not RWD and 7 seats.

And there is a fair chance that it could be available in RHD. FoA has asked about the availability of it.

Hoping it will be made in RHD. Nothing wrong with having a successor that’s taller, wider and longer than the outgoing model. Just put a 1979 Corolla next to a 2011 and you’ll see that being bigger but wearing the same badge is not a bad thing

Interesting that 1969 Dodge Polara CHP cars with 440s ran (supposedly) 0-60 in 6.3 seconds, the quarter mile in 14.3 seconds (at over 99 mph), and run out to a top speed of (or, by some accounts, above) 147 mph ..

In all likelihood would take much more abuse than anything currently offered .... shame about the overall handling and fuel economy ;)

While these old cars would take a beating, they still broke but the beauty of BOF
is that the bodies could be unbolted and the frames repaired and put back to work
much quicker than a modern Unitary vehicle.

The master stroke for Ford was making the 2011 Taurus PI and Explorer PI Ute accepts
the majority of police equipment used in the Crown Victoria PI, saving departments
lots of money in change over of vehicles - required when going to Charger / Caprice.
They use so many common parts like engines, trans, wheels and brakes plus also have
similar driving styles which allowed PDs to change the mix to the SUV as preferences
grew that way.

The big one is supplying AWD as standard, a must for winter in the snow belt states.
A lot of the patrol cars can idle for a decent part of the shift, the smaller V6 is more
efficient as the V8s can't use cylinder deactivation outside of light cruise.

Plus current purchasing trends show people want bigger cars, so an Explorer wouldn't be a bad idea really.

There is something I really don't like about the Edgedura. Looks like an overweight hatchback. Explorer looks like a real SUV

When is Ford going to get a new design language? New Edge and Kinetic were distinctive, succesful themes. This is Acura MDX front with LR Disco Sport mid section and rear end from some GM SUV. Latest Focus and Fiesta very derivative too, IMO.

Last Fiesta and Mondeo hit the mark so perfectly style wise, now trying to be all things to all people.

Territory was such an efficient design, the external dimensions of the Edge
but with interior space and three row seating approaching the RWD/AWD Explorer.

What the Americans covered with two vehicles, Ford Aus covered with one..

Not wrong. The Terri was fantastic and it's a shame it is no longer around. But out of the American line up I prefer the Explorer. But what do I know, Ford Asia Pacific knows what we want.
