Hi Guys
i am not familiar with domains and stuff, but this is what i am after. I am wanting to register for a .com domain name for my website, i have the website all up and running on my isp server, but having trouble linking to google search, and they said it would work if it was a .com ect, not a user account on an isp. So roughly how much a year would i be up for ? Regards Luke

There are heaps of TLD registras.
The easiest for you would be go to www.melbourneit.com and register and deligate your domain to their server. I think they also have a cheap/free hosting service. If you do not deligate your domain to MelbIT, then you will need to get your ISP to host your domain (DNS) for you. They will then point the domain to your webspace so that you can add www.whatever.com to google/yahoo and live.com. You will pay about $150 for 2 years rego for the domain.

Talk to iiNet about hosting domains, especially if you are with them
If you aren't with iiNet you should be But back on topic, if you are looking to host a domain it won't be able to link to your files, as they are stored on your ISP's dataservers and the domain registrar probably can't link to them directly, but then again, you can request something called a CNAME. A CNAME allows you to have www.thisisyourreallycooldomainname.com and it points to http://members.yourisp.com.au/~yourwebpage Hope that helps ZapXR6T is on the ball too |
