Default eBay: Makes Paypal Mandatory in Listings

Does anyone else think that this is crap?

I was trying to list some of my car parts and couldn't because it said that you have to have paypal as a payment method.

I don't have a Paypal account, nor do I have a credit card...

eBay are going to see a member drop.

Buyer security? Bulldust. Paypal charges a fee to retreive payments. So I have to pay a listing fee, a final valuation fee, and now a Paypal fee.

Get stuffed.

What does everyone else think?

you dont need a credit card to have a paypal account.
(well at least when i joined up anyway).
i dont have a creditcard, im verified and its linked to my bank account.
never had a problem to date.

i dont know how they have set up the ebay system so that payments must be made by paypal but im sure you could agree with the buyer/seller that you can make payment some other way?

It makes sense when you know that paypal and eBay are owned by the same company.

PayPal website About Us page:

https://www.paypal-media.com/aboutus.cfm

"Located in San Jose, California, PayPal was founded in 1998 and was acquired by eBay in 2002."

I've had to stick my prices up because of the paypal fees, stops the buyers from getting such a good bargain.Next month you will only be able to accept paypal of pick up only, no more direct bank tranfers etc

Looks not bad... I can see a lot of people using it, paticularly for buying stuff locally. Good layout and easy to get used to considering it is very similar to ebay.

Ebay seem to be getting greedy

Last I heard the govt was looking into this as it was deemed to be unfair and restrictive, that an dthe fact that ebay own paypal seems uncompetitive.

That answers my question as I was thinking of doing the same..adding a small surcharge like a lot of places do for credit card payments.

I was thinking of adding a 5% surcharge for buyers who chose to use paypal, but going on ^^^ it looks like they frown on that.

I have purchased around 400 items in the last 12 months, 300plus from the us, the only problem I had was the non paypal transactions.

Have to laugh at the 1st post though, seems the whole world is about to decay because of it.

Agreed.

Ive made a few purchases that were legit, but not being paypal and poor communication, I sweated on it.

All the Paypal purchases were straight forward and easy to deal with. Especially in a Day in Age where Visa Debit cards are awarded to just about anyone with a few cents to their name, I cant see the problem.

Also Ebay is a business and not a right of the internet, you gotta pay if you wanna play.

Well as far as selling goes on eBay. They can go (insert rude word here) themselves.

I'm really surprised you can't add a surcharge on for certain payment types.

Shops are allowed to do it for credit cards (most dont seem to though).

EBay is not what it use to be. I have found myself using it less because the price difference between it and normal store fronts is marginal. I do use Paypal to buy and sell because it is handy. But now if I am looking for something I head to Amazon there are some real bargains to had at the moment because of the dollar.

Do your self a favor next time you are looking at something on Ebay look for the same item on Amazon. My last delivery was a bunch of books that would have been well over $200 in OZ. They cost me $121 delivered from Amazon.

This sucks big time all it is doing is pushing prices up and increasing costs for sellers i refuse to pay pay pal fees so i will not be selling through ebay.
if pay pal is mandatory they should be removing one level of fees either final value fee or pay pal fee
I understand the comments about keeping sellers honest but this is nothing more than a grab for cash

correct me if im wrong here but all they are saying is that you must have PayPal as one OPTION for payment, they are not saying you MUST PAY with paypal.
you can still pay with bank transfer etc.
no one is forcing you to actually pay through PayPal if you dont want to.
