He's been part of mine and my mates/family Boxing Day Test gathering for as long as I can remember. His voice part of the background during that day whilst partying/playing backyard cricket/etc. with my mates/family and I during the tests.
His voice there again in the background the next morning when we got up with sore heads, with a craving for cold pizza and giving gentle encouragement to crack the first beer of next day.

Going to miss him being part of that.
RIP.

just think Richie Benaud is now playing cricket with Sir d Bradman along with Phillip Hughes what a sight to see

An offer of a State funeral has been made which is wonderful I wonder should every one where cricket whites as a respect to Richie

Very sad news this morning.

Richie touched and entertained many people firstly as a great cricketer and then in his sporting afterlife as arguably the best cricket commentator in the world.

By all reports I have ever seen he was a thorough gentleman and a great example for any person to aspire to.

Our lack of knowledge and understanding of what the sun can do to us was his undoing and recently he was doing advertising warning of the dangers of that.

I'm glad for him and his family and friends that he went peacefully in his sleep.

RIP Richie.

Although not unexpected considering his health battles of late, it's very sad news.

Always enjoyed his commentary and he came across as a perfect gentleman.

I'm sure we'll see just deeply loved and highly regarded he is over the next few days.

RIP

If the family say yes to a state funeral it should be held in Sydney Cricket grounds and I am sure it will be full

what do you think ?

GTP534 yes he smashed his car up and at the age of 82

it takes so long for bones to heal at that 80 and the cancer treatment would have knocked him for a 6 as well

he lived a fantastic life and a full and happy one from what I gather and he was a quite achiever unlike some of the other well known fast bowlers

The big event over the pond that ended up with the under arm bowling did show a different side of him he was not pleased

I do hope they have a state funeral
