Default Is it still possible to run an Escort on Current Fuels?

I am looking at buying my brother's imaculate 1978 Escort MkII and want to know how viable it is to run it on something like V-Power or similar 98 RON ULP? Is there still much in the way of 2L pinto engines out there? His is a two door GL and is running the 1600 Low Compression Kent engine.
Cheers for any advice.

well you're gonna need the lead replacement additive or you're gonna mess up the engine. either that or get the valves changed so you can run it on unleaded without having to worry about the additive. there's pinto engines out there, you just gotta find em. Wreckers would the the go. but the problem as always is would you be willing (and be able to afford it) to rebuild it if the engine needed rebuilding? IMO keep the 1600 kent, save up your coin, then wait around til someone who has built up a pinto and wants to upgrade to a different type of engine. those are the best kind cos they are normally still in the car and you can hear em running.

they only way to be sure is to reco the head with hardened inserts
