Default Anyone know any good mechanics around Berwick Vic?

I want to get my car serviced.

It's last service was a major service at 205 000km's at Kmart Tyre and auto.

All up they bloody charged $920

that's way way to much for me so I was wondering if anyone knew any good, trustworthy cheap mechanics in the South Eastern suburbs?

I would've loved to do it all myself, perhaps if there's a mechanic on here I could pay him to do the service and show me how to do it?

the car is now at 220 000km's so it really needs a service.

We just replaced spark plugs, changed oil and filter and flushed the radiator (we only loosened bottom hose though it wouldn't come off so we waited ages for it to drain so it might need a reflush).

Mate if something needs fixing then you are left with little choice, unless you want the problems to get worse.

When I first brought the EL I got it looked over straight away, $900 later....BUT, I then knew that the car was mechanically sound. Nothing worse than driving on egg shells.

hmmm, for $900 I'd thought there'd bemore than just what I done in 2hrs.

Never going back to Kmart and that again.

What about all the other things though like brakes, steering and exhaust and throttle body cleaning, and all that stuff.

I got a gregory's but it's not detailed enough and I need to buy a torque qrench to do most of the things.

The guy said last service the brake rotors need something done to them.

Just dont go to generic places like that. Stay away from Ultra tune etc.

Find a local mechanic, their the ones that most of the time work their butts off to get a customer; as most people just go to the big places.

Also long as it doesn't look dodgey you should be fine.

Looking again at my last invoice they charged us $910 to do bugger all.

It mentions nothing about checking adjusting idle timings.

This is what they done for $910

Oil change and filter.
Inspect ignition leads (not even replace)
replace spark plugs
Pressure test cooling
Brake inspection
Flush cooling system
Serviced transmission (Don't need to worry about for at least another 50 000k's
Machined front rotor.
Disc pad bendix advance (cost $70 whatever that is)

Air filter, fuel filter

Cleaned throttle body

Chemical flush of fuel rails and injectors.

I know how to do 80% of that stuff, I thought in a major service the cost was due to all the ignition timings, brake master cylinder service etc.

But it looks like they never even do that stuff.

I dont think we are the ones you should be talking to if you are not happy. If you know how to do all of it, then surely you must have known that K Mart Auto service is where Camry drivers go.

What the hell is a brake master cylinder service?

$900 is a little high but not that bad for all that. I don't know what their labour rate is but I think we charge about $110 an hour, it all adds up.

lol I dunno check the master cylinder fluid, check for wear.

So you saying I don't really need to touch it?

Gregory's showed the master cylinder being pulled apart and to renew some things.

I'm just a bit cluesless on half the stuff it says but I guess if I actually done it while looking at the engine in real life I might get it.

I'll just do a tune up, find out how to check rotors and if they need machining i'll just trake them

All you have to do to the rotors is check the thickness. Somewhere like DBA would probably have a chart on thier site telling you sizes
