It's coming to Heathcote Park Raceway Victoria, real drag racer training for females (so yes no blokes allowed!!!) This event has been held in Warwick during 2005 and now is making its way to Victoria on the 1st April 2006!!!! (no pun intended with the date!!!)

You don't need a specialised car to enter, just you daily driver can be used. It is open to any make of car aswell.

Girls turned out in force at Warwick Dragway in regional Queensland on 10th September for the first event of its kind – a Drag Racing Training day for women only.

WA’s Debbie O’Rourke and Queensland Group 1 racers Debbie Reed and Kath Stevens were on hand and worked with the girls on a practical level, instructing them in the fundamentals like the starting system, start line protocol, return road etiquette, scrutineering procedures and the handicap racing system.

The day was organised by the Australian Women’s Motorsport Network Inc (AWMN) and supported by Warwick Dragway, Shannons Insurance, Willowbank Raceway, Western Sydney International Dragway, Warrior Films, Just Wicked, Top Beat, Ballina Car Wreckers, Australian Drag Bike, Total Driver, Operation Drag, East Coast Custom, Wodonga TAFE Motorsport Training, Repco Ballina, MR Performance, Stanthorpe Wreckers, M & D Auto One & Yamaha Auto Two, Save Time Online & Lee-Aise.

“It was one of the most memorable days I’ve had in drag racing,” said Debbie O’Rourke. “The ladies were a diverse bunch that consisted of a couple of experienced racers, but most had never gone down the track before.”

By the end of the day all the girls were doing burnouts, .4 reaction times and running close to their dial-ins. Kerry Wilkie of South Queensland in her hand controlled Statesman (she is confined to a wheelchair) was the overall winner of the day and the overall improvement award went to another Queensland girl, Alicia Jackwitz.

Leanne Bernhard, who came up from Melbourne for the event said, “I can honestly say that I had the best day ever. I learnt valuable information, I got to meet three of the fastest women in motorsport, and all the wonderful Warwick staff and people and most of all I got to know the AWMN members that were there giving drag racing a go. For those of you who missed it, make sure you get to the next one, it is too fantastic an opportunity to miss and lots of fun.”

“We’ve had amazingly positive feedback from the day and have now been invited to organise events of this kind at other tracks in Australia,” said AWMN Co-founder & National Director, Sue Corbett. "We'd love to hear from other women keen to give motorsport a go."

Hi All,

The girls drag racing day is open to all women from the non experienced to experienced levels. The day will have only the Girls racing, but we would love to have any males coming along to support their woman and if they wish, offer some help on the day.

This day is designed for girls to give drag racing a go as there are many girls who have always wanted to have a crack at drag racing, but for whatever their reason, have not been game to try.

There may be a small amount of time that the males will be asked to leave the group whilst we run through a few things!!! It will only be for a little while!

The day is a big one, and is great to have the other halves involved. I raced the first one in QLD in Sept 05, and I tell you that I could not have done it without my Husband (Mr Tuff 73) or without John (No Gas Yeah right) and his son stevie, it was really nice to have so much support from the blokes, it makes the day even better!

I have even been able to teach my husband a few things I learnt at QLD!

So make sure you let as many women as you can know about the day and make sure you come along and support them too!
