Post Bought A Plasma Today !!!

bought a plasma tv today. got a phillips 106cm with ambi lights , pixel + technology . 1024x1080 resolution/ with builkt in digital tv and hdmi input.
decided to buy as it is the end of financial year and all the sales are on . it was advertised at Domayne for 2899 as a sale price. harvey norman had them for 2749 and dropped to 2599 if i purchased on the spot . the good guys had it on sale for 2576 and took 2350 cash. then i paid 199 for a 3 year warranty , as they only come with 1 yr.
i was tempted to buy the 127 cm model, for 2976 cash . but the salesman said it was to big and would give us headaches from 3 metres as is my lounge from the screen , several salesman all said this . hope i made the right choice .
after hours of looking i couldnt fault the clarity of both the phillips tv's . it will be nice to see what this ambi light feature is like as well . ( that is where it throws light out the back against the wall, at varying colours to match the backround of what picture is on the screen. )
does anyone have this TV . what do you think ???? have i made the right decision ?? did i get the right size ????

41" is nice.

we just got a NEC 36" LCD TV, with built in HD tuner, HDMI, etc.. for $2k flat. It's big enough in the lounge room we have..

do you play games? cos i have a 360 and i can't do 1080i (interlaced) cos it's not supported.. 1080p is still good, but 1080i is a bit better.

thanks for that , i'm not quite up to speed with this technology, all i know is it is 1080 i. which isn't as good as 1080p . so i thought
but your saying 1080 i , is better for games . is that right . my son has an xbox , but wants a playstsation 3 .

GTFPV - The extended warranty that you purchased is that directly with phillips or through a 3rd party company? Also is it onsite?

My mate got a mad deal with that had a 5yr warranty on his massive LG tv, i swear it was massive 4 1/2 yrs it broke beyond repair and got a new model as his one was not made anymore.

I got my Sony 42" Bravia 3LCD (basically rear projection) for $1605 @ staff pricing, it was $1999 RRP at the time. Only comes with 1yr warranty, i didnt bother to option the extra 4yrs. Fingers crossed it will serve me well

the warranty is through a 3rd party company, that represents "the good guys" the salesman said that plasma repairs are expensive/ and sometimes not possible . most compliant claims get a new tv / so he says / but i never hold great faith in these schemes.

dont know why people are saying 1080i is better than 1080p. 1080p looks heaps better with my 360.

I was lucky to get a free(yep free) Lcd tv off a customer. I install foxtel and the lady insisted I have her lcd tv because she was getting a bigger one. I kept saying I cant except it, but her and her husband just loaded it into the car and wouldnt take no for an answer. Im not complaining

thanks . no i dont have it yet , couldn't fit it into the car . and it has been raining non stop, so i'm waiting for delivery. next thing to decide is whether to hang it on the wall . or not either way i'll have to buy a new TV STAND. and if i hang it on the wall. i have to punch through the gyprock and run some wires and socket points , so it isn't bodged.

the existing unit that i have will be for sale . it is a very nice looking unit with a 68cm tv on it. i'll post a pic up here with a price on it, soon. i normally sell 2nd hand gear at very reasonable prices . so if anyones interested watch here . and i'll put a for sale section up.

I bought an LG 42' last year. It was an ex-Commonwealth Games Monitor, and cost me $999. I can't fault it, it came in a Factory Sealed box, and plays well with its own HD Tuner, and Foxtel. Its now mounted on the wall, and looks great.

My Mates both have LCD now, albeit smaller than mine - 32', and although I prefer LCD, my Plasma has been a great investment.

EFECTD You have been posting in the Bar, which doesn't add to your post counter.

haha yes go the good guys!!!...we'll beat harvey anyday!!!!

the ambi lights in the back, just gave more vibrancy to the colour IMO, as LCD's have constant back lights, those lights help control the lighting a bit more....also apparently its also the minimum amount of light that should be in a room when watching tv...it helps minimise eye strain
eg. go in dark room movie cinema...then walk outside in the bright light..AHHH you go blind...ambi light helps reduce that effect.

1080 i - interlaced just means the picture is generated by odd and even lines
1080 p - progressive scan..means the picture is generated from top to bottom, no more resolution than 1080i but just looks crisper

should have got a 50" panasonic WAYYYY better tv....nah just joking so you felt bad

yeh i work for the good guys, the company we use is called "horizon" more an insurance company than anything else. There warranties are a little pricey but they cover a-z on the machine and if they cant fix it they replace it so a really good company. Nice to see u stuck with us not harveys

well i got the TV AND I LOVE IT . its in another league compared to what i'm used to. now i just have to know if i should connect it differantely. i have the red yellow white wires going from dvd/vcr combo to tv, and aerial going into the dvd/vcr.
the player doesnt have hdmi output . but has a colour picture triple outlet, and optical audio output . / the tv has these 3 as well but a digital input , which seems incompatible.
i dont have a amp or 5.1 setup . just the tv speakers . it has an inbuilt digital tuner. so it's receiving in digital right, and playing in stereo 2ch. the cables will be supplying that anyway wont they. all the other stuff is for surround sound isn't it . ????
perhaps the triple outlet for the 3 colours , and a stereo cable will improve the dvd picture quality then . even though i cant see how . it seems perfect already.

any advice as thisstuff is just beyond me .

your red white and yellow plugs are ur rca plugs, and they are standard picture quality & stereo or 2 channel sound, to receive better picture quality you would go through hdmi or optical output (but thats normally for sound), the rest you dont need to worry about unless you have a surround sound system..
and yes you are receiving digital t.v. using the built in digital tuner which in the phillips t.v.s i believe is in high definition.

mate i recommend this philips plasma to anyone . you can completely customise it . as i you can have blue , red, white , warm cool, ambi light reflecting on the wall . or auto, in which it changes colour to match whats on screen , example water on one side will give blue ambi light and rocks on the other will give red . also (pixel 2 + auto ) consatantely adjusts picture , contrast , sharpness, brightness, colour, signel strength , and more before your eyes unbeknown to you , you can check its functionand the graph is like an equalizer, even if you dim the room lighting the light sensor auto adjusts the screen tint as to keep the same picture , you cant see it happening, because you can set the speed at which it does it, auto is fine . all the default settings are good . i cant believe all the things this tv does . it even has virtual surround , which you can adjust. it is unbeievable for a mid range TV. it has a digital inbuilt high definition tuner as well . giving me dvd quality TV, and my signal strength here is not good at all . it also has an auto screen size feature where every picture fits screen , if you wish. it is an awesome TV .

blue red and green is the component input. It's the same as HDMI, except is doesn't do sound and it needs 3 plugs instead of 1. Component is a digital input, like HDMI, unlike the traditional style input which is the one Yellow AV cable, which is analogue.

The optical output will be for DIgital TV, and when put into a surround sound receiver, will give you dolby digital surround sound (where applicable) or 6 speaker sound for normal shows, pro logic for movies, etc.
