Default Big Mods, but Dissapointed

Hi,

Just threw in an AU head, Surecam and Pacemaker Extractors and didnt pick up any noticable gains from a Stock EF Manual Setup.

Also, had issues with the ISC which would make the revs hover at 3000, so that is disconnected.

Anyone got any idea what i could of done wrong? I zip tied the cam sprocket to the chain, so it wont be out.

Also, i find it wierd that with the stock ECU, it is not detonating? Increase compression, air flow and an advance on the cam grind should bring it close?

Chip goes in at the end of the week hopefully.

Cheers.

I presume you left the battery off for an hour to reset things ?
you have to asolve the issue with the isc as I think that might be a real impediment to getting the tune right.

why did you change to the AU head out of curiousity? Could have made decent power gains with a ported EF head. And i would say until you get a specific tune to match the new setup it wont go as good as it should.

I changed to the AU head as the Cam i have is only suited to the AU head. Im sure you will get the same gains with a similar cam but with EF spec.

ISC issue?? Dont know where to start.

Cam specs are the Surecam Street Warrior specs. And it seems very smooth other than at idle.. But thats expected.

If its like the surecam oed ran then your car is probably running pig rich. The lower vacuum and bigger cam makes the car much much richer.I think there can be 2 things wrong...too rich(needs tune) or the cam timing is way out.

Naa its a billet.

I sat the cams next to each other to make sure lobes were at the same place and they were pretty close.

I might just throw the stock AU cam in tonight until i can get a chip. Dont want to, but its too damn slow lol

Well I rang around, and nobody wants to chiptorque my car. They are all dead set on the CAPA reprogrammable chip. $1495 installed and Tuned(Yuk).

Anyone know places which install and tune chiptorques? Or, anyone got one for sale?

Cheers

If you do the sums you will find that the cam actually has 517 lift. The cam lift is worked out with a ratio of 1.71 which is a typo.

well mate, i dialed my cam in with the same problems ur having, and it improved 50%. now i get the chip back tomoz after another re-tune, and it should be ok.

if you can, let chiptourqe know how much vacuum u have. i had 3 inches from memory. with that they can do a lot. also, i gave them a dyno printout of my car running ****. that also helps. make sure u dial the cam in 2 degrees advanced.

Pretty sure it just needed things to settle down, maybe computer wise. I did some pretty big mods at once(AU head, Cam, Pacies, Hi Flow Cat) so it would of been a bit of a shock. I also left the battery off all night which reset the ecu well and truly. It still wont work with the ISC connected though, the revs hang at 3000rpm. So thats disconected and i have to turn the air con off at every set of lights :P

A little boggy down low but with the manual thats easily avoidable :P From mod 1st to mid 3rd gear pulls insanely hard. Its great. 3.9 LSD, HD Clutch and a chip and ill be laughing

Damo, lol, I had that name for about a year haha. That was the old car, shes not allowed anywhere near the drivers seat in the new one

Once you get the car tuned it will idle fine. The isc stepper motor isn't making for a happy idle with the standard ecu settings. This setting can be fixed with the right tuning program. Also if you have poor low down power a good tuner can give you back the low down power provided they really know what they are doing. Your tuner will make or break the performance of the car. Its great to see that it runs with the standard valve springs as I have a similar sure cam on the floor in my garage but havent installed it to try because it is very close to coil bind with the standard valve springs. In saying that oed revs his out and drops the clutch like a nuclear bomb and has been fine.

Good luck with it and I am watching this thread with interest. If I can offer my ideas to help you..then I will.

I hope you are sincerely happy with that and that it throws your back into the seat when you press it on a rolling start.I think the diff and tune will work wonders.

BOOSTDEF sounds like you are having the same dramas as I have been for the past couple of months its not fun. Those cam specs are similar to mine but mines in an EA rocker ratio different.I went from rebuilt bottom end, head work HM's extractors,EF manifold, 3.45:1, Crow 825 cam and ChipTorque chip happy with the combo for 5 years time to get faster.

Rang Phil from Surecam sent me a cam up.Fitted it barely ran even with the chip in.Finially figured out how to set up the cam thanks to Lachlan, had cam timing way out.Didn't make any power thought blocked cat.Fit high flow and back to dyno still nothing. This is the roller coaster of horsepower. After 3 months I think I have worked it out, still have to prove it at the drags but if your refer to the post How to run high 14 second 1/4 mile (stock ED 4.0 Auto) you will see what I mean.

Default too little too late.?

I finally had the surecam and my cylinder head installed yesterday. It was an upgrade from standard head and dev4 cam.The car idles but lumpy as.Checked the plugs and they are black .I have the metal cat so hopefully wont block it. The car is running very rich but when I tap the throttle the car hits 110 kmph very fast and very smoothly. I have three days till a tune.Today I am going to buy a hotter plug to fire the mixture and a hotter thermostat to get out of cold startup enrichment maps to normal temp quicker. This hopefully will help the idle as the plugs are definately fouling at idle on start up.
