Default Indian Phone call centres

Hi all,

This week I have been at home preparing for exams which start on the Tuesday coming. Now the problem seems to be, that everyday this week, I have had the same person from India call me up saying I have won a trip and so on.

Each time this idiot calls, he becomes pushier and more aggressive. I have heard the government have set up a website, where you put up your phone number, and you can't be called from a telemarketing company. Can anyone provide me with a link to this site if it does exist and you know where it is?

Thank you very much for your time.
Bill

Don't hang up, just leave him hanging. That is the best way. As then he cannot finish the call until you hang the phone up, he will still be connected for as long as you want. Not cheap from India no doubt.
Try Telstra too, they may have some info on this.

Had one indian tell me that I had "won" a phone, which was the only reason I didn't hang up on him. So I asked him for more details and he gave me this huge speech which I presumed was all above board. Then he asked me for my home address so he could deliver the phone, and asked for my credit card details at the phone would come with a $25 dollar Optus plan. Slammed down the phone, bloody 5minutes wasted on sneaky marketing tricks

Had to order a new diners card for work... took a while for the call to connect "here we go", I thought.

Sure enough, nice crackly line... pleasant lady with a heavy indian accent calling herself stacey (<-- my favourite bit about the bombay call centres is the anglo names they give themselves!)...

*meh*... if I'm calling them then i dont have much choice lol. Different story when they call me at work tho!!

We had one of those blokes call when we had some mates over.

I answered and they said their rubbish. I said "Im sorry, we are having an orgy right now".... all my mates started making the right orgy sounding noises...

The bloke hung up and I have never gotten another call...

yeah... really annoying like you say you're not interested and they ask you why... like stfu then they tell me the deal again... i've wasted their time once by getting all the deals out of this fruitloop and hang up... but it's getting more routine and it's not fun anymore lol.

The two most effective ways

1) The nice way. Say your not interested and immediately hang up

2) The other way. Immediately hang up. This one goes for ANY unwanted call. Never get into a conversation.

3) the Jerry Seinfeld way.

Telemarketer: When would be a good time to call back, sir?
Jerry: I have an idea, why don't you give me your home number and I'll call you back later?
Telemarketer: Umm, we're not allowed to do that.
Jerry: Oh, I guess because you don't want strangers calling you at home.
Telemarketer: Umm, no.
Jerry: Well, now you know how I feel.
[hangs up phone]

You'd be surprised, a lot of call centres based in Australia have Indians/Sri Lankans/Bangladeshi people working. They obviously use 'anglo' names to make you feel more..... Comfortable??

I've had a great week after losing my new Nokia N70 (plan with 3). I've called up several times and spoken to no less than six international employees (four in the one call a couple of days back).

I'm a bit of an ar.se these days, and usually waste their time (yes I'm a Uni bum). I had one call like mentioned above;

"congratulations Sir, you've won a free phone."
"No kidding!"
"Yes, that's correct-"
"So, it's FREE? I've won a FREE phone?"
"Yes you have been chosen and won a free Nokia xxxx."
"Great. Okay, well so will you send me out my prize today? I will look for it in the mail.."
"Uhh well you see, you will need to pay $30 a month."
"Well it's not free, is it? It's merely a scam."

And so it went on until I frustrated him so much that HE hung up on ME!!!!

Hahaha Seinfeld, classic. :

HAHA i love them i want more phone calls

firstly do the seinfeld trick and say your busy right now can i have your home number and ill call you back hehe fugs them up good damn i was beaten :

then if it happens 3 times in 1 day then you swear and curse them threatening to cut pieces off and stuff and they NEVER call back again unless they are dumb then you get personal dont threaten family just go off your head and they will leave you alone (they love it why do u think they do the job)

if all else fails theres a registry setup for this anyone calls your number they get fined and/or can get sued not sure on actuall details sorry

http://www.rotten.com/library/cultur...-call-centers/ here's an interesting (and at times, off-colour) perspective on the indian call centre phenomenon!

And here's an oldie but a goodie (plus two more recent examples):

We got one at work once ... and they simply asked to speak to the "Business Manager". We put the bugger on hold for a few minutes, and then got a few different people to pick it up after a minute or so and tell him that we were finding the business manager. He lasted about 20 minutes!

I'm starting to feel left out here. Only had 2 Telemarketing calls in the last 5 or so years, maybe a silent number is worth the extra Telstra charges

The Government legislation for the Do Not Call register has not passed yet. The above site is voluntary so you will still probably get some rogue centres calling until the Govt one is established.

Best way to stop them is profanity.... Not nice, but they put you on their own do not call list LOL

i always say hello . wow did i really win . then i put the phone down . they rave on for 5 mins before taking a breath then they say , hello ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, hello ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,hello . then i say hold on i just habve to turn the tv offf . then i put the phone down . they continue trying for about 5 minutes then i leave the phone there for 1/2 hour . then hang up . they ring back saying something went wrong . i agree , and the whole process starts again. i spoke to stacey today as well . its a small world
mate i have hung up on them told them to get efffd , nothing works so my latest is to string them out . i even agree to go to thier appointments and then dont turn up . they ring asking why, i apoligise and book again , and so on . maybe this might eventueally work and they will get the hint . but it hasnt yet .at least i'm wasting thier time . not them wasting mine.

Ahh...you mean put the missus on the phone. LOL

I interupt them and tell them firmly but politely that I am not interested and ask them to remove my number from their list. They just say sorry and hang up, if they persist then I hang up. The rate of calls have slowed down.

By the way, they are most likely using a VOIP system so you making them hang on doesn't cost them anything.

Just done that, thanks very much!!!
I find it's best to hang up even before the call connection is made. Those calling from India tend to take a couple of seconds to connect. When you answer and no-ones there, hang up.
We usually screen our calls after 4.30 - 5.00 pm anyway, if it's someone we know they will talk and we can pickup , if it isn't, they go onto the next call they have to make, too easy.
