Default Superlows and shocks

well, i changed the rear springs over to superlows, and it sits a *tiny* bit lower.. I'm going to give it a couple of weeks to settle..

The only criticism i have with the setup now, is that it's more bouncier than my pedders springs.. The pedders springs are also thicker than the superlows.. The old pedders used to handle bumps well, and stick to the road, but now it's alot more bouncy over bumps, etc..

Will a new set of monroe gt's fix this?

I'll get some pics up in a sec..

After replacing the shockers in mine, i can tell you that they're why it's bouncing all over the place. The difference is unbelievable, and i only put Monroe's in as well. Some good quality shocks and your beast should handle like a dream i would think ;)

Oh, and that'll drop at least an inch over the next month if those springs are brand new. Mine were "only just" secondhand, and they sagged a fairbit after a few weeks. If it still sits a bit high, make sure the springs are seated properly (i know you probably already have) because sometimes when i lower the car down (off the jack) they "unseat" themselves a little bit and sit slightly wrong raising one corner by 1/2 an inch...

Ah, ok, how much are new shockers? Monroe GT's seem like the way to go..

These springs have been in a car for a couple of thousand kays, so i reckon they've done all the dropping they're gunna do.. It sits ok, and hopefully with new shocks, it'll sit even better..

I just noticed something, do the xr alloys come in left and right or are they just a single design, because on one side of your car if you look at the top of the wheel the spokes point into the wind and the otherside they point away from the wind. Never actually noticed that before but it seems definitly weird

Oh ok if they've been in the car a few thousand kays, then i'd say thats the height it will roughly stay. That's good though coz i like that height as it sits right now ;) Looks good! ...at least your rear aint lower than your front :

Looking at those pics again... that car should be waaaaay lower than it is if you've got superlows in the back. I wonder if there's something amiss here?

Yagz - the shocks should be about $120 for the pair, plus fitting. I've got the Monroe GT Reflex Techno things in mine, and they improved the handling and stopped the bounciness immediately - though i only have "lows" in the back, and superlows in the front.

they havent been in a car for a good few months, maybe 6.. so give em a week or so to settle.

looks about half an inch lower to me, but ive only seen the car once.. looked like a lot more gap between tyre and arch when i saw it the other day.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, it is lower, but i spose i expected it to be a bit lower, thats all.. I'm still very happy with the ride height!

I'm going to buy a set of monroe GT's as soon as dosh permits, to stop the bounciness..

Cheers guys,
yagz

I think i need to get new shocks in the back to stop bouncing too, i already have kingspring all around and was thinking monroe gt at the back and the pedders shocks with lower seat postion at the front (as the front sits about an inch higher than the back), would that work alright?

I was gonna do the same, but the pedders shocks with lowered seats aren't cheap. I ended up getting "lows" for the rear to bring it up instead. It does sit level with superlows, but only with no fuel (LPG or petrol) and no spare tyre. Bit impractical...

Sorry to dig this up guys, but I thought i'd let you know that the monroes i put in when this thread started are already buggered, well and truly. They squeak and carry on, and the ride is shithouse bouncing aorund like a pogo stick. Get some decent quality shockers if ya got superlows is all i can say...

Default springs

hey,
ive jsut installed ultra lows all round in my ef xr6 with the standard shockers...got a great price $93 a pair at pakenham auto pro!! i must warn people not to do this... it is soo bouncy that i can get passengers to hit their heads on the roof on mild bumps doing 80 k's : .
so i have no learned that a good set of shockers is a must!!

i also have to ask. when i do get a set of lowered shocks will it lower my car even furthur?? because now it sits DAMN low..

i had kings super lows but took them out because rear passangers were hitting the roof over bumps, put in pedders big bore short stroke gsr shocks and the lowest pedders springs in rides much better only 10mm taller than kings super lows. part numbers are 2181 shocks gsr9180, not cheap but v nice ride

sometimes they do especially on the front. depends if the spring saddle is in a different position (like the pedders and koni ones are)

With the stock springs they actaully drop about 30-40cm, The spring platform is lower!! combined with s/low springs , the height drops further.

the pedders ones are only 25mm lower on the front with the repositioned platforms, i was assuming we were talking about the rear shocks, oh well i guess it pays not to assume anything! (ex pedders employee here)
