Just turn the mains off and fully open both taps in laundry..
Hot & cold should both cease flowing

Make sure you do this before you do any work.... and if your main doesn't seal closed properly do what you need to do and get everything back together - I can do 2 washers, including a valve seat grind in 3 minutes as all the places I have worked on had old / dodgy main taps. Don't do what one person did (who may or may not have driven a Festiva) and go to change a washer in the shower only to find you have the wrong one and jump in the car to go to Bunnings and return to find that small trickle going into the wall cavity eventually hit the slab and soak a 3m diameter circle of carpet into the adjoining lounge room and bed room...

Don't forget to turn off HWS power as a precaution if you are working on it

hi
what would you do to get plumbing experience well enough to replace a sink, unblock drain or flex hoses under sinks without leaking water just basic plumbing under sinks and outside taps and stuff thats part of house maintenance when you live in country without travelling to city that water noise in wall was water dripping under house those connections in vanity where flex hoses were leaking a bit and they needed tightening up |

it's all common sense........sinks are a piece of cake..Youtube is your friend and the interweb in general......hardware stores will help as well.
just don't do what I did when removing an "S" bend back a while ago, still full of water and crap, I undid it and, without thinking, poured it back down the sink drain......yep! the one I just took the "S" bend off. don't over tighten those flex hoses, they have a rubber inside that gets a bit crappy and can twist out then leak,.you don't want that in an internal wall. if you can easily access them, turn the water off again, release the pressure with a nearby tap, take the flex joints apart and replace the rubbers.
