Hi guys. I'm seeking any advice on my 2001 AUII, 6 cyl, auto ute. I recently tried to jump start it using the correct cables with a resistor or whatever on them a I've had the same problem before from putting the earth to terminal instead of the block.
Now on start up, after connecting fully charged battery, the instrument cluster says BASE. When I turn the key to start I have all bright dash lights, but no engine turn over. I've checked starter and it's fine. When I previously had the same problem, I'm pretty sure that after diagnosis comp was connected the mechanic went through some sort of sequence with the key an all sorted. Please help guys. I'm on a farm so it'll cost an arm and a leg to get a tow. Plus my mate lent me a car, but it's a Torago bus. And I think my dogs prefer the ute. |

Seems that the computer has 'forgotten' your keys. You'll need someone with an IDS tool (there are some mobile services around) to re-program your keys.

Is the smartshield lamp flashing when you try to start it?
Even if the keys are forgotten the engine will still crank. No cranking would indicate inhibitor switch. Cycle the shifter down to 1st and back and try again.

The light is on, not sure about flashing as its been a week since I tried it. I just put the battery on charge this afternoon to make sure it's fully charged by the morning to try out any hints you guys passed on. The starter doesn't wind over with key but I read on here how to remove the relay and wire up 2 pins and she's working great. Thanks heaps for your help. I'll let you know if it flashes in the morning.

Loved the defence of the mini van. That is exactly what is used for. And parked beside the creek right now.

after you charge the battery turn the ignition on and leave it on for an hour for the car and the ecu to get synchronized. if that doesnt work you might need to get the IDS like someone suggested. IDS i think is also called parameter reset had it done on my AU 4 years ago at a dealership good luck

I'm running into the same problems as you did, did you ever find an answer and how did you fix the car. A happy ending to your thread would be good.

Any chance you remember if the mechanic was able to reprogram it or did it have to go to Ford and was it a BF or earlier model?
