My car commited suicide...

my mates dad lost his LTD a couple years ago to an electrical fire. it was the electric seat adjuster, caught fire, interior went up, reached the LPG tank then boom

Was the alarm system still under warranty? If so you might have a chance at a claim or if you can prove the fitting was not according to instructions.

it was aparently the factory ford fitted alarm from when the car was new. so i doubt it'd be under warranty

Maybe the non compliance fitting will help?

I.E. if it was supposed to have a fuse and it did'nt and this was the provable cause...there just might be a case.

Yeah, this alarm was fitted when the car was new... ive only owned the car for 18 months, so anyone over the last 13 years could have stuffed around with it. For all I know, it could have been installed perfectly when it was new... there is just no way to tell...

My car was kind of an oddball, it was a mid 1992 build, it was a series 2 and had ABS, but it was built just before smartlock was introduced, so as a result the original owner ordered this alarm system.

If I try ford, they'll just laugh at me...

But hey, you could have been driving it at the time and been distracted by the smoke coming from under the dash.

Who knows what could have happened then hey!

Chin up, a change is as good as a holiday. Lesson learned is get Fire and Theft insurance at least on the next car

well, so far things are looking good for me.

A family freind has offered me a car to use for a few weeks, and old magna of some description... should get that sometime tonight.
At least i can p1Ss off all this public transport... today was a 2 hour trip to get to school, for what is normally a 25 minute drive.

This magna will keep me mobile until i can get my girlfreind's XF on the road... it needs some minor work, RWC and rego... nothing a weekend of work cant change.

That should leave me free to sell everything off the NC, save as much of my tiny wages as i can, and hopefully by around august, i can seriously start looking at some cars....

A real pain in the *** for all of this to happen, but at least it looks as though i'll bounce back bigger and better

hey mate sad to hear, was a beautiful car. I wasn't working on the particular night but heard about it the next day. Good luck finding a new car mate, at least it looks like you'll get back on the road soon enough and recoup some of the loss.

bad news on this. If you let the shell go and it is restored make sure they call it Phoenix.

This totally reminds me to get a fire extinguisher and fit it. It might not have helped if you had one but there has been two ocassions (not car problem related) where I have wished I had one in the car

may have helped a little, but unlikely. I'd say the brake hydraulics, loom and most of the plastics would have been irepairably damaged by the time he got out to see the flaming limo :\

HAHAHA you just beet me to same thing i was about to type when reading about Girlfriends XF, but only go that way if its a rust free shell.those plenum chambers cost well over a grand to have new metal put in.

p.s. you should be able to pick up a nice clean ZA to ZD shell for under a grand ,one very nice cruise car with fuel injected 5.0lt and 4 speed auto.

This is why i keep a small fire extinguisher in my car.

Handy if anything happened to mine, or if i see someone else in need. For the sake of about $40 bucks this could have been a slightly warped brake fluid tank and a burnt alarm control box instead of a burnt out engine bay while waiting for the fire brigade. Seconds are precoius when dealing with fire.

Also a good ad for fire and theft insurance, and that the insurance you may not be able to afford, is usually the insurance you cannot afford to have.

Really sorry to hear about the car. Sucks biiiig time.
