Default Speed camera question

Hi Guys

Would like to know if speed camera's get people going both ways? (or is it a case some do some dont) Was going along South Road (around Edwardstown area) tonight about 8.05pm heading away from the city had my cruise contol set on at 64 km's seen the flash there was cars going opposite direction to me no sign further up saying youve been through a speed camera. On the way back about 8.20pm heading opposite way toward the city had my cruise control set on 62 km's same area there was a black mazda that went past me doing 5 k plus ontop of my speed seen the flash soon after, the flash seen the sign on the stobbie saying you have just been through a speed camera.

I have been roaring through a speed camera overtaking before and it didn't go off because even though I was in the lane it was monitoring I was going in the opposite direction.

I would like to think that if no sign, they were only scanning in one direction. I guess you'll know in 2 weeks!

Do the cops need a picture of your face in order to prosecute?
I have heard rumors of cameras that hide behind bushes and actually take a photo of your rear... is it true?

Edit: I doubt the cameras actually hide themselves there, I'm sure a person hides them there

I know the mobile speed cameras in Victoria can be set up to take happy snaps both ways. All in the interest to keep you safe. Be sure to smile!! :

It depends on whether its a single lane both ways or multiple lanes. I have seen two signs both coming and going on Gulfview at Christies.

Also, note that most cameras now use infrared flash. This means you wont see it as the light wavelength is beyond human vision.

I was led to beleive that in NSW they didnt take photos of the front of your car for privacy reasons.

In Vic they can take a pic for both sides UNLESS there is a raised median strip. If the road is divided with a median strip then they cannot use the pic. I know this for a fact as I tested it out one evening (camera guy found out just how powerful AU XR highbeams are too).

Pretty sure theres a basic skinny median median strip about ankle high.

Nah man. Its the glasses you got on! I reckon something so dorky would have to be strong enough to see IR flash at least.

Just got mine today from early September!! spewing, thought the flash I saw wasn't a fine, hoped maybe he was setting up as it was 4am on the Pacific.
Does anyone know in NSW if you have to go to court to contest the speed, I know I was speeding as I saw the flash and I wasn't going as fast as the camera clocked me at??

jeez it took them a while to send it to you, i thought i might have got done on monday about 7.15am when coming into hamilton (i cant remember the name of the road) all i remember is coming round the slight corner seeing it, got on the anchor (i was doing approx 70 and it was a 60 zone. but never saw the flash, i dunno if it works in daytime. Waiting to see the letter in the mail. (it was a mobile camera). It was on the opposite side of the road but the sign was on my side. I dunno how far you get admitting that you were speeding but not by that much...

I've seen 2 mobile speed cameras in my 3 years living here, that was #2. I was surprised as it was early and even though I saw the car on the side with the blue box I didn't brake like I should have. From memory it was somewhere near Gosford heading south. I drove past 2 more cop cars(hiding with radar) that day who didn't pull me over. I reckon the camera was at least 5kmh above what my speedo showed which even me slowing down should have wareranted them to pull me over if that was the case.

I think this will be easier to cop on the chin than worry about though

We don't have any fixed cameras (though they want to put some in) - they are all mobile and the cops disclose the 20+ locations they will be throughout the day in the metro area

Make sure you ask for the pic ( they have to halt all fines etc if you do this ) , you will be 99 before they even get to worry about it, i am still waiting for the pic and final info re my adelaide speeding caper, NT sorted it weeks ago.

What do you mean, ask for the pic, they have to halt all fines?? I have the option on my fine to get the photo for $11, but I need to send a cheque or money order with a letter requesting the photo. Surely dealing with a Govt. department this will mean I'll get it around xmas time if I'm lucky!!!
