Default 255's on AU front.. will they rub?

As the title suggests, will 255's rub on the front of an AU? Will be slightly lowered, although only around XR height.

I'm assuming the rears would be fine?

Dan..

PS For interests sake I'm looking at Hankook Ventus Sport K104 in 255/45/17Y which are load rated at 102 (which I need according to my tyre placard). There are only 15mm bigger than stock, which is okay for an increase.

The pursuit250 is 15mm lower again than the XR8 at the front and comes std with 18X245X40 and they go no where close to rubbing. Total height of 17 inch rim with 255/45 on it should be 603.3mm where as the 18 inch with the 245/40 total height 653.2. Judging by that I couldn't see that a 2 inch shorted wheel/tyre combo even 10mm wider would have problems should be no dramas.

Actually 255/45/17 is 661mm.. But thats only 8mm diff anyway.

Next question... will 255's fit on a 7.5" rim? Probably not?

Dan..

you might be lucky...going on that size rim ie 7.5x2.54, to get the rim width in centimetres is approx 19.05cm, so thats about a 6cm difference...

255/45/17 will throw your speedo out heaps. Best bet is to go 235/45/17 on the front, and 255/40/17 on the rear.

I don't think they exist in a 102 load rated tyre JC.

Plus I'm looking at 3.73 diff ratio anyway, so I'd have to correct it anyway.

Or I'm just gonna sell the thing because it's too hard to mod... maybe I'll go back to being an e-mutant...

Does it need 102 rating because it's a ute?

And nothing wrong with E-mutants, or A-mutants. (I am/have been both!)

i've gop 255's on the front of my lowered au and 275's on the rear but in 18" and neither rub

You will need an 8.5" rim for 255's

Tyre choice will make a difference- Hankook Ventus K104's have a rounder shoulder than the Yokohama Advan's I'm now running and I will be rolling the guards in the interests of getting the most out of very expensive tyres........

But having the rounder shoulder will mean alot less rubbing, but I wouldn't be running them on a 7.5" rim in a fit...........

You obviously don't corner hard enough...:

Stock Tickford suspension with 235/40/18's fronts no probs...the 265/35/18's do rub on the rear..which did suprise me. Look at passenger rear tyre...thats smoke from rubbing.

Cheers

I corner just fine thank you Al!

The yokie's do rub slightly and the hankook's never did (the slightest slightest rub on the inner plastic trim on the rear inner guards on huge bumps, remembering mine is alot lower than yours foxy)- I'll have the guards rolled very shortly and all will be right with the world- all comes down to shoulder profile- both the hankooks and yokie's are 275's and only the yokie's rub.

See- pretty low!

Yep .. 1-tonne utes suck for finding decent tyres. Probably just easier to sell it ..

I'm going to see Ford today and ask the really really really unlikely question if it can be re-certified to the lower rated suspension spec.

If it can't, well then, 90% sure it'll go in favour for another ute. Or not replaced at all.

Dan..

Tel us how you go with the re-cert .. I'd be interested. I want to "civilise" my 1-tonne, but think that it's too hard .. so I get all interested in selling it. Then (like today) my wife takes it out to collect hay bales in a farmers paddock and tow a horsefloat full of them home. So i think maybe I should just live with it :(

Good luck ..

Well I went to the local Ford place - apparently they have NEVER heard of anyone wanting to lower the GVM on a ute, generally its the other way around. I actually had to argue that mine was even a one tonner, apparently "the tyre placard and compliance plate does not guarantee it can hold one tonne".. Needless to say I starting speaking the next person.

The phrase tits on a bull came to mind..

This weekend I am going to browse the car yards and see what they are bringing - living in Nth Qld means there is not an abundance of private sales around, and so I may be able to get a $2k premium over say, Brisbane. If I think I can get my target price - $12k, then I'm definately going to put strong consideration into it.

Otherwise, I'll just keep it. Basically if I sell it, stock is best considering who would likely want it.

Yeah, a good angle- but the rears are 275 so they are actually pretty big......

Best handling mod I have done so far is the wider rims and tyres.......
