New Mobile Digital Camera 3000 reg's per Hour

Just got emailed a link about a new mobile carputer digital camera set up which has 3 cameras mounted on a vehicle, two forward facing camera's, one facing the front left and one facing the front right, the other camera is on a 90 degree angle so when the car is going through parking lots it can take photos of every single car in the parking lot.

It has Automatic Licence Plate Recognition and it is able to take 3000 pictures of Cars an hour. With those pictures it process's the number plats and sounds an alarm to notify the operator if the car is stolen, if the car is un-insured (this is USA where a car has to be insured), if the car is un-registered, if the car is owned by a driver who has just lost his licence etc etc....

Big Brother is going to watch you............

Wonder when thet are going to bring it to Australia......

They were trialing something similar in brisbane a while back - it was on a tripod so you had to drive past it. I guess it would have alerted the cops down the road so they could pull you up.

They have also a drive by emission testing unit, noise etc as well.

They have had a Tri Pod Speed Camera at Phillip Island about 6 months ago, probably testing it.......

facial recognition now??? i dont think that camera would be the final word as to who gets a fine....just something to get the evidence and the cops to chase them up...otherwise go the corrupt governments and us letting them

The Police in SA have got an unmarked van that they park a couple hundred metres before some of their larger random breathos. It has a camera mounted on the back and I'm pretty sure they are already checking your licence plate before you're blowing down the straw

WA have one codename "Argus"
They set it up in high traffic areas, block it down to a single lane and just pull over cars which it flags.

on a trip to sydney last month to pick up the xr8 i was pulled over after going threw what i thought was a tripod setup speed camera as it turned out it was a reg plate recognition .
being curious i asked the cop how it works ,
once a car goes past the camera capable of doing 2 lanes it picks up any vechile that is unreg'd , has outstanding fines or warrents for arrest towards the owner of the car but it can also do a sound test as well as a speed test. they then pull you over in next side street.

and by the way he said they will be coming to vic start of the year sometime.

lucky i just got a caution for being a bit loud must have been on the border.

Dont know if anyone's noticed, but at the twin mobil service stations on the western ring road near boundary rd they have cameras on all of the pumps and a sign inside saying that as you fill up, the computer takes a photo of your number plate and scans in through a database of stolen vehicles, unregistered vehicles, stolen plates and cars that have been involved in petrol station drive offs.

It annoys me that because of a scummy few we are all being watched in everything we do now. I wont fill or get anything from there just on principle.

I'm with you, it seems like an easy way to lose business. Even if it was just checking you for driveoffs, most driveoffs are done with "borrowed" plates anyway.
