I dunno call me old-fashioned and simple but I reckon RWD is way more fun to drive, my FWD TX5 is downright dangerous to drive in the wet.... I dont mind losing traction but not steering as well.

It just the Old Skool v Modern argument all over again...... :
When it comes down to it, its each to it own. But the modern brigade need to realise that without the likes of Mk1 & Mk2 Escorts, x-flows, pintos and BDAs, going sideways in forest and around a racetrack, there wouldn't have been all the modern developments in cars that people take for granted, today.
Modern technology has taken a little of the control and a lot of the soul out of what made us want to drive these cars in the first place.

Sorry guys, this will be my last post on this forum. I think over the last year or so it has pretty much lost the plot for me with my "old technology." When you have to wait 3 minutes for the sponsorship to pop up before you can make a comment, I feel its time to take my comments elsewhere.
Stay tuned, whooligan.

Now at least on this i feel i have a balanced opinion.

my daily driver is a KF laser. Not much been done except free flowing exhaust setup, changed cam, shortshifted, pod filter etc - easy stuff. Maybe one day ill get around to putting a turbo on who knows?

ive also owned three escorts (a mk 1 a mk2 gl and an RS) which had the usual mods, twin webers, retuned, all that jazz.

It comes down to this:
A stock escort will have a smaller outlay in terms of cost, but will have less power than a stock jap or korean car. Thats technology.

Also parts are cheaper and longer lasting for the modern car - more parts are produced and better produced, thats simple economics. The fact that your escort hasnt caught fire still puzzles me whooligan but one day it might just do that while an excell overtakes you.

A modern car will never look as cool as pre-1985 cars though.

A modern car will never give you that thrill as you feel the secondaries opening up.

Its all just what you want.
I love old school muscle - thats my choice.

But whooligan? Ive spent a total of $2000 (i kept the receipts and the car cost me a thousand) on my laser and it bumps out 160-170hp your an *** if you think technology and time cant change much.

Just friggin think for a second. Not only is the hyundai pumping out the same amount of power. Its lighter. It has less displacement (1.5 compared to 2.0 hello??) and handles better.

An old hot rodder said to me that old school sounds cool but an SR20DET or RB25 can pump out as much power as a V8 any day.

So while i do love the old school (i gotta make that clear) technology always wins in the long run.
