As the title suggests, the speedo in my au2 xr6 is stuck at 77km/h. I've been having a few dramas of late with the car.
Is there a quick easy way to fix the speedo problem?

I have tried hitting it....
The tacho is also not moving.... it's stuck at about 1700rpm. I'm really sick of this car.

Yes. They don't move at all. I tried giving the car a bootful to go over the 77km/h, but it didn't do anything....
Tacho and speedo don't move whether the car is running or off...

sounds like your needles are stuck somehow, can you remove the cluster from the car and pull the face off it?

Not really. I wouldn't know how to remove the cluster to work on it...
Can't really afford the time off work to do it, but looks like I may have no option..

LOL...never heard of that before.
I agree with the above, take it out and see whats going on. A car is just one big piece of mechano, you'll be right. Surely you have time on the weekend?

The tachometer in my mums old EL used to do this occasionally as well, after being parked in the heat. She would start it, and the tachometer would shoot up to 2100RPM and not come down or move until she went over 2100. It may be the heat, causing something to expand and stick, but if you take the cluster apart and give it a clean perhaps? And just move the needles about, it may free them up a bit.
Of course it might break it as well, but it doesn't sound like you are losing too much.

Do the other gauges work? Does the LCD light up?
If not, im betting one of the data calbes has come out of the back. Or it is dead.

Yes. All the gauges work (except for the tacho and speedo), LCD panel lights up. Everything works, except for the 2 gauges.

No. The speedo stopped on the way home from work this morning...
The tacho stopped about 30 mins later, when we went shopping.

Strange, more then likely you'll have to pull it apart or replace it, but if you want to grasp at straws first, unplug it and see what happens

I've got it booked in at the Auto Elec on Monday so I'll let you know how they go, and what was causing the problem :(

Yeah, I've ignored it for the last 2 days, but now my smartlock won't disarm (AGAIN). They only fixed the smartlock less than one week ago with a new computer for the car. Sick of this car.... Seriously over all the trouble since I've bought it.

Ok... I finally got the car back from the workshop today....
All it needed was a new PCM and new keys cut to match... Nothing much : Turns out that the PCM and the chip in both keys were out of sync and kept causing terminal errors on the ECU. Yay... I wonder how long it will last this time

Good news.. My XR is finally an XR again. After lots of stuffing around, and many abusive phone calls (and being treated like I know nothing because I am a girl), we finally have the correct ecu in the car again.... Yay for us...
Now to go and relearn how to drive a car that accelerates...

Good to hear you go it all fixed ... weird how the PCM got out of synch with the keys ... but I guess stranger things have happened with cars though ... and someone is bound to come across a curly issue from time to time.
So what happened ... did the auto electrician put in the wrong ECU for the type of car???

Yes. The Auto Electrician put in the hi level ecu from a Forte/Fairmont rather than getting the XR ecu. He was told they are the same anyway...boy was he wrong.
