Hi there, thanks for all your feedback on previous threads regarding fairmont bonnet/grille fitment and choice of wheels. The AU2 ghia bonnet and grille with chrome mould is going on as we speak and I am repairing the Tickford AU2 wheels as well. Will probably fit new Maxxis tyres after hearing a lot of good words about them on here. Have sourced some lowered coils on here and will be having the spring reset as well. Just wondering what brand of shocks are recommended by you guys. Only going low not super low and middle of the road, not too firm. Look forward to your opinions. Will have some pics probably next week of it all completed. Thanks again.

I have used Pedders Sports Ryder shocks in mine ... I have only lowered mine 1.5" though ... so not too much ... and I travel a lot of rough roads as well.
They have been good for me ... no issues so far ... and not harsh either. Handles load well too.

Thanks for that. Sounds like the same combination that I will be running, about 1 1/2. I'll price up the Pedders.

Pedders shocks are just Monroes with the Pedders logo on them.
KYB's are also a very good shock for their price.

I had KYBs (Excel-G Gas) in my previous car ... they were great.
I know someone with KYB shocks in am EL Fairmont ... and he said the rears were too firm for his liking ... but that's all.

If you have some time to save the extra dollars you won't do better than Konis. Bilsteins are also coming back into the market with some good gear but I am not familiar with their pricing - they used to be about the same as Konis.

I asked about Konis and Bilstein at Wholesale Suspension.
I was told both great products ... Bilstein is about twice (or more) the price of Konis for not much more performance. For track work ... use the Bilstein ... if just using as a road car ... bang for buck the Konis are better ... unless you have really deep pockets. For my application I was advised to use Koni ... so when it comes time to upgrade I will give them a go ... but so far the Pedders have been good to me so i can't complain about them.

Valving is very different (which is the important factor) Pedders to monroe so they are not just rebadged products. Mounting kits are not the same and in some cases more welding in some areas for more strength and possibly different grade shock oil. For the thread starter, the pedder product is the most affordable reputible brand with the right stroke with their lowered applications. No I do not work for them but it's in my field of work.
