Arrow Electronic shift kits, who has proof of them damaging autos internally....

Some ppl think electronic shift kits are good, I'm half convinced they are.

Some mechanics and auto rebuilders swear they are rubbish that destoy the auto.

I want to see or hear about peoples experience with them.

Has anyone damaged an auto with one hooked up?

Does ramping oil preassure stuff things up?

Michael.

Personal experience indicates otherwise in several cars , but then it's not to me advantage to say they do ( know what I mean?)

I had one in my standard ED falcon 6cyl for nearly 3.5 years.
When i purchased the vehicle it had a slight flare.
I serviced the auto and put a 'low pressure' shift kit in and drove great for the next 3.5 years!

No complaints at all. Used to scare passengers 1-2 shift in the wet but its all part of the fun....

After turbo'ing my EF I found my auto would slip really badly between gears, after putting a shift kit in, it stopped the slipping. I spoken with some of the guys from BTR that have been doing the developing work on these gearboxes, both here with falcons, and overseas with other cars, and they all think its not going to hurt the boxes.

My auto had done well over 300,000 ks, and about 35,000 of those were done with over 260 rwkw going though it, I put down its survival due to the shift kit.

Saying that I wouldn't want to put one in a NA car, I don’t think there is much point, and they can produce some really hard shifts when you’re only cruising.

I too have the slipping, even in power mode.

Ive been in cars with them as mentioned, but they have been so damn hard shifting, are people putting variable resistance shift kits in pre AU cars?

I hocked my up to a Auxiliary output from the Wolf3d, so it would only switch on if the car was on boost and the throttle was more then 40%.
That way it still good for driving around town.

If you don’t have a ECU that can do that, you will be able to pickup a jaycar kit to switch it on and off depending on throttle position.

I think its the S5 solenoid that controls the shift firmness

firm line pressure is good for the boxes....but too much can be a stress on the gears and not to mention the rest of the vehicle (uni's, diff)

It's not the line pressure that does the damage, it's the shock/load transmitted though the clutch packs, bands and planetary gear set. Yeah it may survive, but whats the difference between a shift kit and constantly hammering the car?

I have always been led to believe that a shift kit can prolong the life of the Trans not break it.

Had one in my brothers AU for 3 plus years only uses it when racing no problems.
Best thing you can do for your Auto is big trans cooler.
Any modification can damage your car, as you are doing something to the car it wasn't attended for pushing it for more performance.

That may be true if it is done properly, like anything I guess. The firmness of shifts would be more refined for production vehicles, but there maybe a durability trade off for the smoothness. On the otherhand if someone was to be too aggressive with the shifts it is very likely that a failure of some kind may occur.
