Default Brake Lights Not Working...*sigh*

Hi Guys,

The break lights on my gfs 1999 AU Forte dont work ... We bought it 2 nights ago, so I dont know if theres something wrong with the wiring or not? Ive checked all the obvious things ie Fuses, Globes and etc ... the park lamps work fine ... just tht when you press the brakes Nothing happens ... the cars got 2 extra brake lights as well ie one on the spoiler and one on the parcel shelf but none of em work : So it has to be the wiring yea?

I waz hoping you guys could point me in the right direction

Thanks,
Oz

Brake light switch under the brake pedal. Common issue with the Falcons.
Not too badly priced from Ford either.

You can easily check if the brake light switch is fauly by removing the it from the pedal and probing the connecor using a paper clip. If you bend the paper clip around so it's connected into both terminals of the connector it will complete the circuit. If your brake lights work by doing this then your switch is at fault. If it still doesn't work then you have a problem elsewhere.

yer thats exactly what i was going to say. just bridge the switch out and see if your brake lights work. if they do go to ford and get a new one. i think there only about 40 bucks max retail. dont buy the cheap aftermarket ones as they tend to fail again in a few months. (from experience)

have a look to see if the stop light in the back window lights up, if that lights up then defiantly check the globes or just give the side 1/4 panels a hard tap , as the wires might not be connecting properly.

Change your globes. A visual check doesn't always show that a globe's blown or not. If it still doesn't work, take it to an auto ecletrician - they will diagnose it quickly for you.
