My AU3 rear selt belts have lost the ability to retract. they still lock up when pulled quickly, but they dont retract the belt straight away, have to feed it slowly? Similar situation?

My guess would be there's some kind of spiral spring, like in a rip-cord or tape measure. Maybe it needs replacing?

It may not need to be replaced. I found with mine that the seatbelts act as a dirt/fluff/anything else that sticks to your jumper filter. It drags it all back into the seatbelt, gradually slowing down its retraction speed until it doesnt retract at all. What you can do is pull your seat belt out of the car, (I hopefully will get time to post a 'how to' over the weekend), and give it a clean out with a gentle cleaning agent, and when you re install it, you MUST make sure it goes back in the way it came out, and that it works properly and is bolt very tightly back into the car. Once I gave mine a clean it, it was as good as new!

On the AU's there is a plastic spool piece that lines up the belt so it retracts properly, this often cracks or breaks and can jam the belts from retracting
Imagine a roll of wire, the piece I am talking about is the spool part that the wire is wrapped around
Break off all the plastic spool parts from the main axle bit and the belt will often retract properly again. The belt needs to be removed from the car and be fully pulled out until you can see the spool.
Removal is easy, just remove plastic on B pillar for fronts and under parcel shelf for the back, you need a torx bit though

I think they have been upgraded in BF's
