hello,
when turning my 99' AU there is nothing except a constant tapping sound. i havent ran the car in a week, but this is normal and never before have i had a problem. last run there were no warnings and ive had the starter replaced not too long ago too. regards. |

sounds like not enough power in the bettery to crank ... makes a lot of clicking noises.
Is the battery light staying on when trying ... and ar all the lights on the dhas flickering when trying to do it??? Also it could be a case of loose battery connections on the battery terminals (I had this due to too many accessries hooked up to it.). If the car has been sitting for ages though ... I suspect low voltage in the battery. How long has the battery been in the car???? Some times the glovebox light can come on if the contact in the glovebox is not closed (???) This can wear a battery down over a week .... had this issue once on mine too.

flat battery
it happened to me about 3 months ago. The battery looked fine and seemed normal right up until the cell collapsed. It ran the radio and the lights fine, but lacked the oomph to crank the motor.

If its a century battery thats three months old i'd be taking it back, there meant to be maintenance free for two years, unless of course ya left some thing on or ya alternator is rooted..... once ya get it running it would pay to check the voltage on the back of your alternator, should be some where around 13.5v, if its more like 12v or a tiny bit over, ya alternator is shagged. But then again a quicker way would be to check the charge light on dash........;)

I'd start by rereplacing the starter motor, If that dosn't work pull the motor down, as it might be seized. After that if it still dosn't go, try a new ecu, after that I'm out of ideas

Umm
Is there a current drain thats causing the battery to go flat? No point replacing it if in 3 months you get the same people telling you its a flat battery again!

just charge get your booster cables out, and connect to another car, start it and it should keep working. if it starts going flat again, take it back. check water in the battery, but as already mentioned, shouldnt require service. also alternator starting to be on the way out?

most cars these days require the battery to produce above a certain voltage before it will actually crank over. this is usually about 11 - 12 volts. accessories will run on less then that, hence why if you turn the key to ignition, you will get all the normal warning lights, bells and whistles including radio, dash and interior lights. but not enough voltage in the battery and clickclickclick is all you will get. guarrented if you jumpstart (not really recomended with todays technololgy in cars these days with the risk of voltage spikes and all, but thats another issue altogether) the car, she will fire with no problem at all. just make sure you give it a good run before you have to turn it off again. if you have the same problem next time you go to start it, then start looking for what may be causing the voltage drain
