Default AU Turbo

Hey people, I'm a forum virgin so bear with me please...

I live in the western suburbs of Melbourne and I own an AU series 1 XL ute that i have done the following mods to:

- Lowered with pedders springs
- 2.5" Cat back exhaust
- XR Front bar
- Tinted windows
- Pod filter
- 17" 5 spoke Tickford rims

Can anyone advise me as to where i can get (In Melbourne) a turbo kit for it and also i want to change the auto to a 5 speed manual.

Cheers

www.snortperformance.com is where I got mine. Do a search on 6boost as well for another place to buy stuff.

You'll have no shortages of places to install it if you're in Melbourne. Check the sponsors for help there.

Personally I'd probably stick with the auto.

Deffinately Snort. Or Boosted Roo (I think) off ebay seems to be exactly the same but cheaper.

if you plan on turbo charging your AU then going to the 5 speed manual would be a bad move as it won't handle the torque. , 3rd gear especially.

Consider supercharging too. Whilst the CAPA kits are exxy, I have advanced warning of a kit about to hit the streets starting at $3.5K @ 9 PSI. Unlike the turbo, you can keep your exhaust, don't need oil lines, etc so a simpler install.

Exactly.

Although you can buy tougher manuals from Mal Wood but you're looking at about 2k upwards last I checked.

Its just the extra torque that they hate, so Id say it would.

To a certain degree yes, but not as bad, boost comes on more linear and smooth - builds with revs, where as with a turbo its more of a sudden whack of boost. Makes it more harsher on the driveline than a supercharger.
No T5 will take mass amounts of launching, dumping, flatchanging or anthing of the sort, they will last provided you do in-gear accleration only.
Because the supercharger builds boost with revs, say you let it go from 4000rpm, your on boost and at 4000rpm you could be on 8psi = blow box.
The T5 boxes are a hopeless gearbox, weak, notchy, basically just shlt. Malwood do sell upgraded versions of the T5, ie Z spec at $2200 which is said to be reasonably strong and take some punishment....

A stock auto with shift kit and oil cooler will take more punishment than a stock T5 and say a heavy duty clutch.

Oh and Boosted-roo is Geoff from Snort Performance. He's got some great stuff, cant knock it apart from his wastegates. Get a different, reputable wastegate - Tial, and your laughin.

Out of curiosity, what do you see as the issue with Snort's wastegates?

They are cheap no-names with usually the wrong psi spring in them.

Alot of people ive heard with Snort kits always have problems with his wastegates, boost spikes, over boosting.. things like that. He may have changed them by now, he may not have, its been close to a year since ive seen his wastegates.
