Default Holden is no More

from http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69222

The Holden brand is no more.

At the opening of their new $200 million facility in Melbourne, the company has announced a name change - GM Holden.

It's about restoring links to US parent General Motors, apparently.

Ford v GM Holden?

Just doesn't have the same ring to it...

Its GM's way out of a financial black hole how many of the hoardes of Red Army Bogana have HRT tee shirts? Now if every one of them spends just $45 for a new GMHRT Shirt and $25 for a GMHRT Cap, then the books will be back out of the red in no time. :evil_laug

If they want to change the name...Ford vs Chev would sound better.

Its the same as Ford having its Trading name as Ford motor Co. or FoMoCo really.

They wont advertise or put GM holden on their cars. They have been GMH for ages though havent they?

Why did they change it? A last-ditch effort to make average consumers think there was a merge?

Didn't they change themselves to Holden Limited (or some such name) several years ago ??? I thought it was changed to look independant or something....

Sounds like a big **** to me.

I think the next Generation Commodore will come with a GM badge on the side like few of GM's cars.

Holden has always been known as General Motors Holdens, or variations of. By renaming it GM-Holden they are simply bring it into line with the other divisions. You'll only see it on dealer materials and the like rather then on the cars. I wouldn't be suprised if all the components are rebranded simply GM in the near future anyway, I note that my former Renault van had a number of Renault/Nissan and straight GM brandings on it.

As far as I know, the company's proper name has always been General Motors - Holden.

my mum used to work for "GMH" but it was back in the day, so not too sure if it stayed as that officially....

either way, its not gonna change much...although when holden fans bitch at me that holden is 100% australian etc etc, being assoiciated with GM wont really help their argument...

Didn't do anything for the "GM Daewoo" rebrand... but lack of acceptance never stopped marketing before!

Meh, everyone will still call it Holden so it is no big deal. A couple of GM badges strategically placed on the car is all it will pretty much produce.
