Full power windows

Looking at getting the full power windows done for my au. What do I need? And are there any actual kits made for this?

I know there are items on ebay that you can buy for this.
a search for "au window" pulls some good results.
there is also some window buttons to operate rear windows that go on the drivers side door.
Seems like a reasonably cheap conversion, for parts at least.

I reckon there would be a few people on here that have done this alas i am not one of them.

yeah im interested in this too....my AUIII already has power fronts but id like to convert the rears...does anyone one no whats involved...is there wiring etc already there????

The loom wont be there unless its a mid/high series vehicle, in which case you'd have power windows already there.

You'll need to run power to the windows, change the mechanisms (the windup ones are different), and I think you may even need to change the BEM to make it all work, not 100% sure on that though.

Its reasonably simple if you can get a hold of all the parts.

If you're patient, I'll have the window regs and switches available from my Fairlane when I get around to pulling it apart.

Get in touch with LG - he has done this conversion. It is not a cheap one.

I have a series I with power windows in the front, so am I looking at an expensive conversion for the rears?

I'm only guessing here for the AU, but I know with EF/EL's in a Futura for example where there is power front windows, but manual rears, the wiring looms will already be present for the rears. In the EF/EL's all you have to do is put in the reg, plug it in, and then plug your new window switches in front and rear - all pretty simple.

Hopefully it's that easy for the AU!

No worries Aust, will no doubt start a thread when I do - I haven't even seen the damn thing since the day I bough it about 3 months ago!

I have done the conversion. It was a little expensive but I think worth it. A word of advice clean the contacts in the switches before you install them.

What you will need:

Power window regulators,
wiring,
the looms,
the switches,
door trims. - its not essential but you will have an empty hole in the door trim otherwise.

I picked it all up at FTG for a couple of hundred dollars and a phone call to Stav (from Stingray Car Security) to install them. Took a few hours to install.

With the conversion, you dont need the drivers door 4 way switch. If anything it will make it easier to install.

Just did my fronts in the ute two weeks ago. Cost $400 all up and about 2 days to do it.

From a wrecker i brought:
Front door trims
Front Regulators
Both front switched

That cost $350

Then the other $50 was buying automotive cable from autobarn/supercheap which i used to create my own looms and narva automotive connectors to hook it all up.
Which on that note, the narva connectors are fantastic things. The 2 prong connectors were a straight hook up to the plugs on the regs and the 6 prong connectors fitted straight onto the switches.

Easy enough to do if your confident with electronics and stuff. I've even got mine running off a relay and fuse in the factory fuse box position for them. I've just haven't been able to connect into the BEM to get the 30 second delay function, so they're on all the time.

Best advice i can give if your going to do it all your self, is get a hold of a gregories/elery manual for the car, and use the wiring diagrams on here to your advantage. They make things alot easier.

If you only have to convert the rears, then you will need:
2 rear door trims
2 rear regs
2 rear switches
1 new main switch
+ wiring which you can create your self

Have a look on the wiring diagrams on here and then decide if you feel confident enough to tap into wires to hook them in
