Been driving my sisters AU2 Forte over the last week and have been experieincing problems with the gearbox/gearchages.
Basically before the auto shift to 3rd (when in D) the box is hitting neutral for a second allowing it to free rev (and if you don't let off the revs obvioulsy it 'bangs' into 3rd) Seems to be happening cold and warm. You can avoid it by holding it in 2nd and manually changing to 3rd at 2k revs. Also is shifting into 4th when held in 3rd. Fluid level is fine. The car is a I6, with the column auto if it makes any difference. |

sounds like the S5 solenoid. I don't think you can adjust the bands in an AU trans even if that was the problem. You could blame the bands if the trans was slipping but it's getting full pressure if it's flaring then "banging" into gear. The S5 controls how quickly the fluid comes to full pressure. Like the difference between gently easing a clutch pedal out or dumping the clutch "BANG".

yeh sound's like S5 and yes you can adjust the bands in the btr le 4 speeds. You will have to remove the valve body first and there are diffrent size shims you add to take up adjustment. cheers mick

Yes,the replies are on the money I think.I had the same sort of issues in my AU1 Futura, and it was definitely the No5 Solenoid.
Don't leave it too long,as it gets a bit scary if it begins going "neutral" DURING driving,especially going around corners and going through intersections! Good news is that's it's not a major or expensive problem to fix. Good luck. |
